Which university should I attend?

Northwestern University, University of Notre Dame, UC Berkeley, Boston College, or USC.
My major is biology and money isn't an issue.

I think they’re all great schools, so now it’s just up to you. I’m not too familiar with the bio departments of any or all of these schools, really. But they’re definitely different in feel. Do you want to be on the west coast? Boston? Chicago? Indiana? They’re all very different. Urban or rural? Look at classes that you could possibly take. Make pro/con lists and then see what you think.

Which of these universities is the most prestigious and well known?

Berkeley and Northwestern have the most name recognition in terms of academia (Notre Dame is very well known for its athletics, however), with the former being much more well known internationally. Either two would make a great choice, though I’d venture that the latter is better for undergraduate education.

I would pick Notre Dame or Northwestern if I had the choice.

I was actually slightly leaning towards Northwestern, but I want to hear some other people’s opinions before making the most difficult decision of my life. Northwestern is part of the Big Ten which is great since I’m a sports fan.

Thank you.
@dannybrown Northwestern would probably be the best to get me into medical school right?

^^ Without a doubt. Northwestern has a fantastic track record for sending students off to medical school, among the best in the nation.

I’ve visited many of these choices, and in my opinion, Northwestern > all.

Btw, dannybrown is correct. BC is in Chestnut Hill, although very close to Boston.

Money’s not an issue. Why would you attend Berkeley when you attend a private school. I’d pick Northwestern or USC. I don’t know where Notre Dame is in Biology.

I know Berkeley is a large impersonal public school with outstanding students. But you can go to Northwestern or USC, both having more resources for you than Berkeley.

What type of location (regarding weather) do you want? I assume you live in CA, although you might live in MA or Illinois. How far away do you want to go?

They are all great schools, i would probabaly say berkeley for academics, but it really depends if youre okay with a huge school and which coast (or niether) you want to be on.

It all depends on where you fit in best. If you really want to be challenged academically, choose Northwestern. If you want a balance of good academics and an active social life, then USC and Notre Dame are good choices too. Northwestern has the best biology program of the five, but remember med schools look at your gpa, and not really the college you go to. If you go to Northwestern and get a 3.3 gpa, it doesn’t look as good as going to USC with a 3.5 gpa does.

My recommendation is go to a college where the classes aren’t EXTREMELY challenging, but they are tough, so the chances of getting a higher gpa are greater.

Is Northwestern the most challenging school out of these 5?

Berkeley has enormous biology departments with a very wide range of offerings.

[General Catalog - Molecular and Cell Biology Courses](http://general-catalog.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_list_crse_req?p_dept_name=Molecular+and+Cell+Biology&p_dept_cd=MCELLBI)
[General Catalog - Integrative Biology Courses](http://general-catalog.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_list_crse_req?p_dept_name=Integrative+Biology&p_dept_cd=INTEGBI)

However, biology also has a huge number of students (probably about 900 per year), so expect to see some very large classes, particularly in lower division prerequisites.

On the other hand, some of USC’s biology courses are also large (as in ~200 students), presumably reflecting the popularity of biology.

Berkeley and USC list capacity and enrollment in their on-line schedules. Northwestern does not.

Bumping this.

Have you decided?

northwestern or notre dame would be the most presitigious and likely to get you into med school! i personally would go to notre dame, but my best friend is going to northwestern so either school is honestly great and you can’t go wrong!
Notre dame is rural, in the middle of NOWHERE
northwestern is in chicago!
that difference may solve your dilemma
good luck!

No I haven’t:(
I forgot to add that I was accepted to UVA OOS which makes my decision even harder:(
