which UP school to apply to

Does it matter whether my son applies to SEAS or CAS, if he's very interested in engineering, but isn't 100% sure he'd want to major in it b/c his interests are varied (he'd consider minoring it in)? From other threads, it seems like he could, w/the right GPA, transfer between the two after freshman year. Is there an advantage to applying to one over the other?? Is one harder to get into?
thanks

Penn recently introduced the option to major/minor between CAS and SEAS after one is already enrolled in one of them, so he could double major between the schools if he wishes to. Transferring is not always easy from what I’ve heard, so I would recommend talking to professors in both schools to see which is a better fit for him before he applies.

I’m not the best source of information, but I would think transferring into Engineering would be more difficult than transferring into Arts & Sciences. If he thinks engineering is a possibility, it’s probably best to start out as engineering. He won’t want to fall behind on required credits and risk graduating late.

I asked my friend at Penn about transferring into Arts & Sciences and he says he definitely has friends who have done it, although I believe there are some GPA requirements.

I think the College requirement is about 3.0; not sure what it takes to internally transfer to SEAS.

Just as an aside, is it possible to transfer from CAS internally into Wharton? And how difficult would that be?

It is possible to transfer to Wharton. But I’ve heard (from looking at other CC posts actually) that it’s mostly based on your GPA, and is very difficult.

^I remember my friend telling me that people who are looking to transfer internally to Wharton often load up on easy classes in the College in order to maintain a high GPA. Maybe that works.
