Berea does not charge tuition, but they do charge for room and board. IMPORTANT: Their international admission rate is 2%, so you better have a good backup plan.

Regarding Berea: Berea isn’t completely free. For the first year, at least, they cover all your expenses(tuition, room, board and fees). However, they still require a $2200 deposit even before they issue the I-20.This deposit may be used to pay for expenses in the subsequent years–after the first year, you are expected to pay for room, board, books and personal expenses(a total of around 6.5k per year), but for cases where this might prove to be a huge difficulty, there are various grants available to assist you in paying for these expenses. Also, you’ll be provided with on-campus jobs to help pay for these expenses. However, as b@r!um already pointed out Berea is very selective,(their international admissions rate this year was a little less than 3%) so you definitely would want to have some other backup.

thanks, I do not depend on my parents, I earn money by working and it is approximately 15.000 % per year, how would people on college look on that fact, do you think that there is a little chance for me to be admitted? What is the most important to be admitted, is it points on TOFEL, grades, or something else?

simple, EVERYTHING. you are judge on your grades, SAT, TOEFL, ECs, accomplishments, work experience/ethics, essays, and more…they can’t simply determine that you’re a good applicant just by looking at your TOEFL score…you have to be good at everything…besides, a good TOEFL score doesn’t really give you a competitive edge, it simply determines whether you are qualified to study in the English language.

Thank you for the answers, could you tell me is there any other college as cheep as this one?

College of the Ozarks <----very rural…in my opinion, it’s not worth it, not even with the free tuition

or you can try Harvard…they give tuition free academics to ALL families that has an income less than 50k or 70k (i couldn’t remember the amount properly)…the tuition free thing applies to everyone, even international students

Deep Springs College…they admit only 25 really really smart men (an all men school) and gives all of them full-scholarship…it’s a 2 year institution, but usually the graduates transfer to Ivy League universities successfully after their experience there

Webb Institute…the tuition is free, but you have to pay for room and board and other stuffs that costs like $18,950…or you can reduce your payment to $6,000 ++ if you commute (not living in dorms)

and CUNY’s teacher academy if i’m not mistaken

btw, where are you from? have you checked out universities in Finland, Sweden, and Norway? there are lots of tuition free universities there

Thanks a lot, I can see, you know a lot about this topic. Can you tell me in which college is easier to enroll? Berea accepts only two percent how many applicants can/will Harvard enroll, as I understood only a small percentage, which means that I have a slim chance? Can I assume that they will pick only a very smart people with great grades? Good essay is not hard to write and TOFL is not so important

@dado99 when we’re talking about admission to Harvard or any ivy league for that matter, it is a total crapshoot. It is completely unpredictable (a kid with a 2400 SAT score, 4.0 GPA, and 10 AP could get rejected, and someone with a 3.85 GPA 2250 SAT and 4 AP could get accepted instead). You have to please the Admission Committee, and the best way to do that is through your essay(s). Please don’t say that making a good essay is easy; it requires planning, proper construction, and word choices. One way that you can base your essay on is by buying a book that was published by the Harvard Crimson named “50 Successful Harvard Application Essays”. You will get tips on how to write essays properly, interestingly, and most important of all, successfully. To be on the safe side, make sure you get the highest grade possible, the highest SAT I & SAT II scores (they need 3 SAT IIs btw), the required minimum TOEFL score (100 on iBT), extracurriculars that shows your interest, and MOST important of all, you’re essay. Obviously, Harvard’s acceptance rate (although i don’t know the exact number) for international students must be low (it’s an Ivy League institution after all), i mean their acceptance rate for undergraduates as a whole is like what? 7% - 8%? you can be sure that the international rate is lower than that. No one can ever be guaranteed an acceptance to Harvard (the exception goes to people that had their parents donate a lot of money to the college), so be sure to have a lot of backup plans.

Getting an acceptance to any of the free college in the US will be hard for international students, and the best way to find safety school that are within your financial ability can be found through the collegeboard website. [Free College Search | Scholarships | College Admissions Requirements](http://www.collegeboard.com) click the “find your match” button on the college search box, choose what kind of universities you want (2 years or 4 years), the tuition fee (note that you should click tuition fees in the Out-Of-State category) that you prefer, acceptance rate, and other factors. Once you’re done with it, the website will narrow down the universities that fits your choice.

Good Luck :)

Besides the schools listed in the 3rd post, Middlebury is also need-blind + need-based for all international applicants. As for Canadian specifically, Penn and Columbia are need-blind + need-based as well.
