Which will be better?

I
m kind of having trouble deciding my IB course choices… if anyone could help me out, I
d appreciate it.
First of all, I
m currently taking IB A2 Englislh HL(I
m taking Japanese HL for A1). I
m transferring to a school next year, and the school does not offer A2 English. They would like me to take A1 English, but if its
s not possible for me, then they said they might make an arrangement with the English teacher to do A2 privately.
I don
t know what I should do. I
m doing fairly well in A2 English HL(B+), but I
m not sure if I can handle A1. If I take A1, I would definately have to take it as SL… I have 4 HL
s, so the diploma requirements won
t be a problem.But I
ve heard having more HLs is more impressive, when it comes to admissions. Well, I guess what I
m trying to ask is- which will
look` better? A1 English SL or A2 English HL?

Im also having trouble choosing my social science course. I can take either history, economics, or social anthropolgy. I will be taking the course at SL. But I don t know which one to choose. Im not bad at history, but I dont have a very good backgroud of world history( I couldnt take it because Ive changed school systems during sophmore yr) Ive never taken anything that is realted to economics or social anthropology.... which class will be better when it comes to admissions? I know its kind of stupid to ask,o, which class will look better?, but it s really difficult to choose, so any input will be appreciated.

For those of you wondering, how can u change A2 to A1 the second year, when the diploma is over 2 years: I`m doing the diploma over 3 years due to my personal situation(moving to a different country, transferring, etc).

Thanks to evryone who replied!

bump..anyone?

It is not usual to change between A2 and A1 during the usual two-year course; I doubt it's possible due to the different requirements. As A1 SL is harder than A2 HL, I would stick with A2 HL. Don't worry about how it will look to admissions - admissions usually considers the full Diploma as the toughest possible course load, regardless of package (I always found that unfair), so focus more on getting high grades.

There are no prerequisites for IB Economics - it's taught from scratch, as is IB History (and I would imagine IB Social Anthropology). However, I say go with Economics. First, as SL subjects don't usually get any placement credit, it doesn't really matter from a college point of view. Second, History SL is very tough - the exam is insane. It's at least as tough as Economics HL, while Economics SL is significantly easier than Economics HL (I did History SL and Econ HL). Finally, History is easier if you've had experience taking History before (not necessarily world history, but done a history course so you're familiar with source papers, essays, etc).

Finally, do not choose classes based on what you think an adcom will like. Choose them on what you like, and score well in them, and the adcom will notice it in a good light. Good luck to you.

Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it very much!
Yea, I have to agree with the
regardless of package
comment.. so basically, if a person took tough choices in IB, and did not get as stellar grades as the a person taking an easier courseload(but still IB), then that person will be favored over the other person who is doing very hard classes???
I`m doing math HL right now and it is killing me...........!!
