texas isnt that bad!

Texas is really flat...I lived there for a bit and thats pretty mcuh all I picked up on it

anyways, it all depends on your perspective on fun. For me, one day fun is talking about international politics. The next day, it could be going to a kegger. Its all about balance for me.

Brown was SO fun.

Y'all don't even know though. I guarentee that Pomona can compete with any of those schools that have been named except for USC and Duke. You guys forget that the claremont colleges total 5500-6000 undergrad, meaning you have 5 different campuses to party on. also, our schools BUY US ALCOHOL. name another school on that list that does that. The only reason that USC can compete is that it has a massive greek system, however, if you're not greek or don't like to party greek you're screwed (i.e. you're a guy not in a frat who's not with a group of 10 girls).

As for the location of Pomona being boring, are you smoking? I'm not saying claremont is Isla Vista, but compared to Providence? Or New Haven? please. Besides Pomona has LA and you don't have to live in South Central to get it.

Side note: if you like to DJ Pomona has an event every tues night called table manners where you can spin. also, every party at the 5Cs is a dance party so every event needs a DJ. that way you actually get paid to spin.

Um Rice is in Houston...one of the 10 biggest cities in the country.

houston is also the 4th largest in the country.

pomona's social life is CRAP...my best friend from h.s. goes there and I've visited him a few times in the last year. The parties blew (although it was nice that the school bought the alcohol)...and just so people don't start making assumptions as to him being an anti social nerd, he is a really social, not really too bright football player...all he does is party but he goes and does it at other schools or with the football team. The only decent parties we found (or he has told me about) in the Claremont colleges were at Claremont McKenna...NOT Pomo.

Btw, out of the colleges I listed in my earlier post (#20) I've hung out with friends for a few day (and partied) at Duke, Brown, Princeton, Pomo, Harvard, Tufts, and Yale (and obviously penn)...

I have not yet partied at USC, Berkeley, & Rice. Those I ranked from the stuff I've heard from a few friends.

Dude, you're solidifying my desire to go to Pomona...Table Manners sounds PIMP, Tomadog. And yes, I was looking for dance parties. Anyone else know of places I can spin?

I'm smoking?! This is the most ridiculous post I've ever seen - truly delusional! Before I embarass your post, I must say that anyone that cites this Table Manners thing as an actual event - especially one that's purpose is to promulgate one's social scene - is fairly self-explanatory of Pomona's pathetic scene itself.

Let me begin by explaining to you that I ranked Yale above Pomona not solely for it's location. Did I not mention the unique housing system? How about the intellectual student body (not to say that Pomona doesn't have one)? How about it's close proximity to Manhattan/NY? How about campus quality (added)? Did those fly right over your head?

Also, Pomona to LA? Well that's assuming that students have cars right? How do you plan to get there otherwise? Oh and let's not forget about traffic! You're already facing a 45 min drive to begin with, if you decide to leave anytime before the sun sets, then you might as well tack on a MINIMUM of 20 minutes. Oh and it's FAR from a pleasant drive! Don't forget the traffic you're almost guaranteed on local streets. Where you getting off, Hollywood Blvd? Get off on Hollywood Blvd and it'll take you 10 minutes to get beyond Vine. Oh and where do we throw gas into the equation? How about parking fees?

Pomona to LA is as feasible as New Haven to Manhattan. Oh and Yale will equal any party that Pomona produces - have any naked parties? Hold those constant, and what makes Pomona even close to Yale? Yeah that's what I thought. My original post still stands.

haha, that's what i'm talking about. i love yale. pomona focking sucks.

1) Location: Getting to LA without driving; it's called metrolink. Also, don't be bitter that it averages mid-70's year round whereas you're stuck in snow half the school year. Also, there's an ocean you can actually swim in.

2) bern700: note the post, I'm not claiming that Pomona alone is going to destroy the other schools, social life includes all the other Claremonts Colleges. Therefore, you party wherever the hell you want to.

3) "I must say that anyone that cites this Table Manners thing as an actual event - especially one that's purpose is to promulgate one's social scene - is fairly self-explanatory of Pomona's pathetic scene itself." Hey idiot, the guy asked if there was anywhere he can spin...every tuesday, he can...and drink free beer, so unless your school buys you 2-3 kegs every tuesday night and then fills a room with about 100-150 people, I doubt you can call that pathetic.

Hey hey hey, I'm looking at BOTH Pomona and Yale, so it depends on where I get in anyways...afterhours, is there anywhere I can spin at Yale? Pomona has a one-up there, though a naked party sounds pretty sweet...though the pics Yale has sent me don't exactly include stunningly gorgeous women...not to be shallow, or anything.

UPENN, DUKE, PRINCETON, and USC are the best on the list. the others are lame.

if you don't mind "preppy" student bodies look at Washington and Lee, Vanderbilt, and UVA. They have great academics and amazing parties.

out of harvard, yale, princeton. harvard is definitely the worst socially. yale is a step up. if you are in new haven check out Bar on Crown street or toads. some of the other places are sketchy as are most of their frats. out of the ivies, UPenn generally has the best party reputation.

if i was in your shoes, i would go to princeton. not girls gone wild, but edges out yale and destroys harvard.

On this list...UCB and USC are a little harder to compare since they are very different.

Princeton
Penn
Duke
Brown
Yale
UC Berkeley
USC
Harvard
Rice
Tufts

Other "top" fun schools to look into are Dartmouth, Stanford, and Northwestern. Dartmouth has big parties every weekend and an awesome social scene. Most schools have one "big weekend" a year, Dartmouth is the type of place that has four.

Wh... what, LAME?? Hey now!

First off... The parts of Texas you saw may have been flat, but Texas ain't all flat! ;) There are actual mountains in the Western part of the state, much of East Texas is dense forest, and you've got an actual tropical zone in the Southern area, where Houston is. Don't judge a state by the middle. (I'm trying to keep this in mind as I suffer through a year and a half in Urbana-Champaign... you think Texas is flat and 'death', try living here for a while... At least Houston has excellent TexMex.)

I'd like to put in a plug for Rice's "fun" factor. Ever heard of Beer Bike? One day a year, everyone at Rice wakes up, gets vastly inebriated at 7AM, goes outside for a parade and massive drunken water balloon war with literally thousands and thousands of water balloons, then treks out past Rice Stadium to the bike track, where there is a chugging/biking relay race. It's a phenomenal tradition and competition is intense.

Also, there's NOD. "Night of Decadence". It's held at Wiess residential college around Halloween. They'll come up with a wickedly off-color theme ("Naughty or Nice: Santa's Coming" was a recent favorite... yes, that's an off-color pun) and people show up wearing scanty "costumes" that consist of.... not much. Guys show up in boxers and body paint, and more adventurous girls show up in... something that'll cover the illegal bits. As in, a thong and some stickers, maybe. Beer flows, dancing happens, fun is had by all. Ranked by Playboy as a "great party".

Baker 13 is a streaking club that does monthly or bi-monthly runs across campus, clad in shaving cream. Toga parties, 80's parties, blues parties, sporting events, and two ON-CAMPUS pubs... Rice isn't "lame". I promise. =)

all the places with people on it are flat! haha

"As for the location of Pomona being boring, are you smoking? I'm not saying claremont is Isla Vista, but compared to Providence? Or New Haven? please. Besides Pomona has LA and you don't have to live in South Central to get it."

Please. Saying Pomona has LA is like saying Stanford has San Francisco. 30+ miles away even if one has a car. And a metro line? Not that I know of. Come on, how many people so you see on the Sunset Strip in Pomona (or any Claremont College for that matter) Hoodies?
