ok so i want to get into a top notch school like cornell.

i have good grades but im worried about extracurriculars. which of these is more prestigious?

10th 11th 12th
jrotc drill team (takes up all my time so i have no time for other things)

or

10th 11th 12th
clubs like science olympiad, volunteer club, and mu alpha theta(math society)

which would cornell like better?

Which would YOU rather be a part of? That’s the question.

actually, that’s NOT the real question, countryangel. we can all sit here, self-righteously, and say that things like that shouldn’t preoccupy us, but it’s all about gaming the system. i would probably say rotc and drill team, since thousands of applicants (i was one of them) were in honor societies, like mu alpha theta and NHS, and in volunteer clubs. however, what benefitted me was my 2380 SAT, 34 ACT, and my 4.0 unweighted GPA.

yeah, i’m with WW, go for the drill team, it’s something… unusual

I really think it should be whichever you want to do more, OP. it’s the years of YOUR life that you are going to devote to your chosen activity.
I do agree with WW’s point about grades and GPA being important, although they needn’t be quite as high as his to make you a fine candidate.
