Which would I be better at, ACT or SAT?

I don't know which test to invest my time into.

I have always been strongest in english, but I do very well in math as well. I am also taking biology, physics, and chemistry, and I know that the ACT has a science component whereas the SAT does not. Admittedly, I am a perfectionist, and the thing that scares me most for both of these tests is the time limit.

Which test would I be better suited to?
If you have taken both - which did you score better on?
Are there any advantages in taking both tests?

Thanks!

S studied for the SAT, took the SAT and then took the ACT a week later after a couple of quick practices. He did great on both. D took the SAT, then practiced a lot for the ACT. She took both tests twice and did significantly better on the ACT’s. I would suggest you plan to take them both, but concentrate your efforts on one or the other. The science component of the ACT doesn’t measure ANYTHING you have learned in science, but is really more of a test of whether you can read and interpret graphs and other scientific data.

Hi. I totally agree with sylvan8798 about ACT’s science component. It has nothing to do with what you’ve learnt in high school.

Ok, so the ACT’s science is more a measure of analytical capabilities than anything else. And are there any general characteristics of individuals who excel on the ACT vs. those who excel on the SAT?

One difference is on the ACT you can guess and it will not count against you. However on the SAT wrong answers can hurt your score.

What type of students tend to do better on the ACT, and what type tend to do better on the SAT?
