Um, well. I’d probably go with USC.

The UC system is going on a lot of budget cuts, and USC is a good school if you’ve got money to toss around. I’m only thinking about UCLA/USC, though; because I don’t know enough about the other schools.

^ The budget cut for most UC campuses affects postgrad students/programs more than it affects undergrad. USC is also on budget cut and I would reckon that it’s going to be their undergrad students that will be greatly affected by it than their postgrad students will. Having said that, I’d rank them this way:

UCLA
USC
UW
Indiana

I’m not a USC fan, but I agree in this particular instance.

USC has excellent undergrad business (UCLA has Biz Econ, not quite the same) and engineering programs. Add in the night scene and financial/merit aid, and it’s the clear winner.

Illinois is probably your second best bet, since you’re in-state.

What type of engineering? If you’re looking at CS, UIUC all the way.

For engineering UIUC is probably your best bet. It may not have the surroundings you would want, though. If you are in-state it seems like a pretty easy choice unless you are filthy rich.

I don’t think UC schools give much FA to out of state students, if you combine that with out of state tuition for 4-years it will add up.

ok thanks, USC seems like the way to go. im gonna look into that more.

oh and long.897, im looking at going into mechanical or civil engineering.

Unless you get huge aid from USC that makes the cost much cheaper than UIUC, I’d choose UIUC. Sure it doesn’t have the glamour/city life of USC, but for your academic interests, UIUC is tops.

but does uiuc have a music scene? concert venues? because to me, thats just as important as academics.

^ Of course apply to USC and see what financial aid is awarded - it’s a good target school. But I personally would not pay a huge premium for it over Chambana (your in-state public with top programs in your major of interest).

UCLA:)by far

is it easier to get into usc as a freshman or as a transfer?

and lets say i decide to not apply to usc this year, but for transfer next year instead; does usc give as much FA to transfer students?

bump^^^^^^^^

Wiscy by far

im pretty sure UIUC has a pretty good music scene. there’s a music festival called pygmalion coming up that headlines iron and wine. there’s some other decently big names there too if you’re into the indie scene, like wavves and japandroids.

also sufjan stevens is coming later in september
