hello,im 16 from India and im in 11th standard now . im interested to study in MIT but im confused when to apply for it . in 2010 july-november i will be taking my sat for the first time .
i think i might get selected for International Chemistry Olmypiad in 2011(July) and i want to include that in my application but i finish my senior year(12th) in high school by 2011(March-April) .

so i have to apply in 2011 jan or 2012 jan ? is there any age limit for applying to MIT ? any indians out here , please PM your email : ).

Thanks .

Better apply 2012 Jan. In that case your secondary school education should be completed and gives a better image to MIT.

Though you can always apply both years. The more you apply, the more you may learn about the application process :)

thanks for the reply : )

also, if you are a good shot for IChO then get your chem teacher to write a rec for you, and get him/her to cite some of ur performances in chem, and make a strong suggestion in ur 2011 app that “…on that basis, [so and so] has a very high chance of qualifying for the Indian IChO team, which will compete in Turkey later this year.”
I’m not sure when India finalizes their team selection, but hopefully it won’t be that late into the year so you can send in an update notifying them that you got into the team; your performance at IChO however, will be too late to be considered…i think

yea . the results of 1/5 stages exam will be out which will decide whether i am eligible to write the InCHO or not , thanks for the idea . Yes results of ICHO will not favor my 2011 application ,so i will apply again in 2012

Hi
I am from India too and am in 11th, so pretty much the same situation except the ICHO (BTW, best of luck for that!), and am applying in january 2011.

with applying again in 2012, you’ll be taking effectively a year off from schooling, so ur gonna to have to explain to MIT what you are/will be doing over that period…you probably should find some productive things to do…
