A couple of years ago we drove around the outside of the campus, but my D had zero interest and thought it seemed so crowded. Fast forward a couple of years and she is interested in big state schools. If she gets in we will go for a tour. In the meantime, I would love a description of the campus and architecture and I’m curious if the student center is nice and the dining halls are modern. Google images don’t tell me much. Thanks.
@citymama9 try YouTube. Students have posted some nice tours.
@citymama9 I was pleasantly surprised by generally liking the school. Is the campus beautiful? No, though the old part of campus is pretty enough. I don’t like the newer part of campus nearer to the stadium. It feels a bit wind-swept and desolate, but in fact there are people everywhere. Son LOVED that at least 3 times on our tour, random students called out to our tour guide by shouting “We are!”, and the tour guide didn’t miss a beat, shouting back, “Penn State!” The second time it happened, all of us on the tour shouted right along with our guide. We laughed and shouted again the third time it happened.
There are tons of dining options, so it’s hard to give a general description. I was concerned when we walked through what was essentially a fast-food court. Then, we went into a proper dining hall and I was impressed. It was modern and spacious. I am sure there are quite a few dining options.
I don’t remember if we saw the student center. We visited a library, which was very nice. We bought ice cream from the Berkey Creamery to take home and it was delicious. There’s even an incongruously placed chapel, which is nice. The guide told us people regularly get married there. There’s a ton of restaurants and shops around campus, and you can see the local ski lift from campus. We were there on an unseasonably warm day in Feb and EVERYONE had on shorts and t shirts. There was a good vibe. It’s probably my son’s top choice.
@Lindagaf Thank you! I don’t know how I missed this.
