I started the math olympiad at my school (no one had even HEARD about it before 10th grade) and qualified for the AIME the past two years that it's existed here. I also qualified for the USNCO national exam (and could be a lock for camp if not for some...circumstances I discussed in the High School Life forum) as the first kid in my school system to ever do the chem olympiad. This is more of an implication of my school for not raising awareness for such things and teachers talking out of their...cavities about me but not knowing of any good competitions to do. Now that I know about the olympiads, I wish I could have done each one at least two years earlier (Ex: I think I could have made semi finalist for bio in 9th and even finalist this year had I known about USABO back in 2004) However, should I bother putting such things on my application in an effort to show that I have some sort of "pioneering" spirit and did "not too bad" for my first shot at USNCO (For brownie points I was 1st in the county and 2nd in the NY section for the local exam)?

Wow, you're a genius. To be able to make any national olympiad is absolutely amazing--I've been doing physics and chemistry for two years now, and I still didn't make the USPhO or USNCO. AIME qualifying, however, isn't that impressive.

You're not making sense..

You want to write on college applications that you -would've- made national camps in USNCO/USABO/etc. had your circumstances been different or if you had heard of Olympiads earlier?

Good luck with that.

LOL...not at all...that's not what I was saying at all but whatever.

Oh, and why am I bumping this pointless thread up?
