White House Internship

Stardust, multiple interviews are fine.
After the whitehouse internship views your application, EVERY department that you listed is sent your application. Each department then decides who they want to interview, etc. So each department interviews the people they want, make a recommendation and sends it back to the White house internship department. The white house internship department has the final say.

My friend who interned last spring had 3 interviews: 1) white house internship office (general interview) 2) his other choice 3) his top choice: environment.
He was accepted!

So in short, each department has no clue what other departments are doing. I could be wrong but this is how I interpreted the process from everything I have read and heard.

also, i wonder how come no one has heard from the White House internship office…Maybe things are different this year?

Oh okay. I was thinking they pass applications along to another department if a person is not a good fit.

But from my understanding, or what I’ve been able to grasp from interviews, the Internship Team has first review only, and if you make it past them, different departments contact you. If you’re contacted by the Internship Team in the first few steps, they may be having trouble deciding if you will make it past first round. The Team also gets the application back after departments make their recommendations, and they have final say on selections.

oh okay, cool. I wish we all had a clearer perspective on it.
My interviewer told me that she would send my recommendation over to the internship office and that they would have final say. That kind of confused me, but it makes sense: if two departments both want you, then the internship office would definitely have to make the final say but they probably do that based on your numbering of department choices.

My interviewer told me the same, they make recommendations and the Intern office makes final decisions.

Hi everyone,
I did get that very general email about the still processing applications, but I also got an email about finishing up some interviews that the interviewers were playing phone tag in essence with and those that did get interviewed their notes and thoughts were being turned into the internship office and that we should know something shortly after the holiday.

Another note… For those who have been interviewed and are going to be interviewed, this is a good sign. The last time i applied i did not even get the vitals email. Just keep a positive outlook soon we will know.

Also another quick note. I was told that they really do not call references or at least my interviewers said to me that that it is not common practice to call references before they interview.

What about after they interview?

yeah, what about after the interview?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!! (p.s. eat a lot of turkey, get that tryptophan in your system, don’t resist the food coma and wake up to your acceptance letters…I hope)

Well put Caramel. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! For the next 2-3 days, do not keep checking your emails every minute as I don’t think any decision will be forthcoming till Monday. I am sure no one will develop ‘Cold Turkey’ as you will be busy devoring the real Turkey for Thanksgiving  Gobble! Gobble!

Anyone heard anything? Email or interviews? I am still waiting.

Nothing here… I got a call from an unknown number that totally made my heart race, but it turned out it was just an automatic call from my pharmacy. :)

Hey guys, no news here… Stiiiiiiilllllll waiting

I think we’ve had the longest wait out of any internship class. Lol. Go endurance!

nothing! this is getting really ridiculous.

has anyone heard anything? if you have, PLEASE share! it will help us know what the situation is so we can move on with other opportunities or simply move on.

thank you!

Lol, I think tomorrow we will hear because all my interviews have been on Tuesday… Nights

I had an interview on three different days and none of them were on a Tuesday. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a pattern happening with the dates.

It may be time to move on and just be pleasantly suprised if anything happens.

Yeah, perhaps. I have to tell my other offer by the end of this week and I don’t want to say yes then no, you know?
