Yea, they’ve already started notifying people and they will continue notifying people over the next couple of weeks. That’s what they said when I called.

I’m thinking there’s a good chance of rejection at this point, and we should start taking other options. Just a thought

Oh okay, thanks stardust. Thats very sad though, because from the people I have talked to it seemed that if you got an interview you had a very good shot. Okay well, maybe its time we face the facts, but its disappointing. You never know though! Im not giving up just yet!

doesn’t the internship begin on january 18, 2011? that’s what the website says unless i’m mistaken…

i really don’t understand why it takes “a couple of weeks” to send out notifications. They’ve had 2 months to go through the administrative process of sending out applications to departments + decisions. They have a list or they don’t.

and please, issues of foreign affairs and political pressures is not an explanation. these are people who work in a government internship office that hires unpaid interns for goodness sake. these are administrative people. they are not the same people whose job entails some intellectual capacity to work on such affairs. omg they’re not even involved in the main decision process, they just facilitate the administrative process of organizing, coordinating, etc, OF the decisions/recommendations submitted by the various departments.

Don’t give up hope, Stardust, unless they’ve decided on the smallest intern class in recent history. I really don’t think a lot of people have been notified. We’ve only seen 2-3 hits on Twitter. More importantly, this is not an obscure thread. The people who actually contribute to this thread are not the only people who read this thread. Much, much more people read but don’t post and haven’t reported anything.

and because i’m so confident that lots of people read this thread, i find it highly unlikely that a reasonably sized bunch of notifications have been sent out because at least one person out in the world that read this thread would post here to let us know what’s up given the anxiety expressed all up in here.

So…if you are reading this thread consistently but haven’t posted…please, we welcome you to share when you receive a notification. we would greatly appreciate it!

So I have taken the advice of WHINTERNhopeful and decided to post on the forum. I too have been following this forum religiously waiting for one of us to hear back from the White House.

Real quick before I provide my information let me just give you a quick background. I applied for Spring 2011 and have had a prelim interview and two interviews with different offices that both went well.

I decided to call the White House Internship Office today and asked them a few questions about what a “no response” means for this long. The person on the phone was very nice and reassured me that I should not look into this issue too much. Additionally, I was told that they are using rolling notification to let people know if they were accepted/rejected. When I asked any further questions I was told that the office cannot comment any further.

In one way this information made me optimistic because the tone on this board has turned quite pessimistic and morose over the past few days. Yet, the process itself is taking longer than any of us could have expected and at one point some of us will not be able to take the internship due to other commitments. Therefore, I believe that we should remain realistically optimistic meaning that many of us still have a good shot because the White House needs interns to do the grunt work. We should not assume that we are rejected just because we have not heard back yet.

I have been doing research on twitter and other websites and I have yet to hear more than a few people say they were accepted. If you start clicking on a few of the trackbacks you will also notice that some of them do not link to active Twitter accounts. Additionally, these “accepted” people do not respond to other peoples tweets asking them about how they heard, what office they gained acceptance too, and when they actually heard. The people just posted one tweet and never commented on it again. This makes me skeptical.

In summation, I think we should be positive and remember that with each passing day the probability of us hearing steadily increases. We have to hear before January 18, right?

Yes, I too just received the same e-mail. But if they’re notifying people now, why wouldn’t they send us their decision rather than another e-mail telling us to wait?

Also, on another point, just an FYI, my professor works in the White House, and she told her students today that if they ever want a job with the federal government (in any capacity) that they should not read WikiLeaks on their personal computers or advertise WikiLeaks in any way. The President, apparently, said that WikiLeaks is still confidential information and that reading/advertising that information questions an applicants ability to responsibly handle confidential information in general. When the federal government searches your computer in the future, any indication of WikiLeaks could jeopardize your ability to get the job. I just thought ya’ll should know.

It seems like they have stages where certain people pass and certain people fail. I just got an email thanking me for applying. I didn’t get it. I wish everyone the best of luck.

I was a lurker on this website for a long time as I was waiting for a decision on the White House Internship. On Nov. 23rd I received an email saying this:

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for applying to the Spring 2011 White House Internship Program. We appreciate your dedication to public service and our country. We regret to inform you that we will not be able to offer you an internship for the Spring 2011 program. We encourage you to apply for the Summer 2011 program at [The White House Internship: A Public Service Leadership Program | The White House](http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/internships). The summer application will be posted until 1/9/2011.

Thank you again for applying.

Sincerely,

The White House Internship Team

Needless to say after this email I was very disappointed and put the thought of the internship out of my mind. However, today I came back to this forum and saw that many of you still have not received a response except for the latest email that was sent out. I’m sorry that I posted this message so late, but I hope that it helps some of you make a better decision in your futures.

Good luck to all of you that are still waiting for a response from the White House!
