White House Internship

Right . . . I meant to ask if anyone had heard anything tonight.

HEY GUYS…should we start a FB group? accepted or rejected it wouldn’t matter…everyone could join! :)

I know the people from last cohort started a FB group, so maybe we should start our own?

Sure, what would you call it?

Unfortunately, I didn’t get accepted. Congratulations to those of you who did, and good luck to the rest of you who still haven’t heard anything. I will apply again for the summer and hope that I get in then.

For people that apply multiple times, do you usually include the same letter(s) of recommendation, or do completely different ones? I haven’t applied for the internship at all, but I am curious as I don’t want to ask my recommenders to write a letter twice. Also, I did campaign work for the GOP and I have a leadership in my school’s College Republican chapter. Would this be a problem? I don’t feel it would impede my commitment to the president.

cbcbcb- It would depend on where in the process did you get rejected. Obviously, if you got to the interview stage or the stage where they ask you for writing samples and then get rejected, then the recommendation letters cannot be the issue. If you do not make it to the second round i.e. after submission of your next application, the logical thing to do if you are reapplying is to submit recommendation letters from people other than the ones you approached earlier.

Has anyone else heard anything yet?

Nope, still nothing. Wow, this board is really dead now.

Looks like we are the last ones left waiting for a decision.

I am quite sure that we are on a backup list :-(

Realistically, I believe that we are on a wait list. I just find it strange/amazing, however, that everyone on an ANONYMOUS message board refused to say if they were accepted. Even on twitter/facebook no one has said if they got the position. For as much complaining everyone did for a month and for not one person to say that they got the internship just boggles my mind.

That is the glimmer of hope that I am hanging on to.

Haha. Yay, you haven’t all left me! You’re right, it’s like everyone on this message board died. I’m still waiting too.

I called the White House yesterday, however, because I was a little concerned that I may have deleted my notification/put it in spam, etc. . . It turns out I didn’t. She wouldn’t tell me if I was accepted, just that I have not received my notification yet. If you’d like more peace of mind then you can e-mail them, though I think they’re only going to tell you to be patient. That is what she told me. She said, “You should know very soon.”

Yeah, for as much complaining as people did over the last month I was a little surprised to hear things like, “out of respect for the internship office.” Haha, they didn’t seem to respect them so much when they were swearing at them. :P

I don’t care if we’re on a back up list: hey, at least we’re on a list!

I’m sure we’ll hear soon. Right?!

I am sure that we will hear soon. Fingers crossed.

GRFL289- I like your optimism  its always good to be positive. I wonder by the time the WH comes back to us with a decision, how many applicants would remain and would not have joined elsewhere! Given the information age, the selection process should have been much faster and smoother than the one we have experienced over the last 3 months.

Hi, this is my first post. I am still waiting as well. I wonder what could be taking so long??

So has anyone heard anything? What scares me is that it is almost a month away and if accepted I will need to move across country. Where is everyone else located?

Hello All:

Like many others, I have been lurking on this website without commenting. Unfortunately, I too got the rejection letter on December 14. I was a bit frustrated so I did respond and ask why? lol. This was the response from the white house.

"Dear Applicant,

Thank you again for applying to the Spring 2011 White House Internship Program. The selection process was incredibly competitive – we generally receive more than 1,000 applications for slightly more than 100 slots. While we were not able to accommodate you this time around, we strongly encourage you to apply again. We will offer a summer, fall, and spring internship every year of this administration. The application for the summer 2011 program is now posted at [The White House Internship: A Public Service Leadership Program | The White House](http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/internships). The deadline is 01/09/2011.Due to the high number of inquiries about the selection process and ways to improve a candidate’s individual application, we are unable to respond to everyone with specific advice. However, we do stress the three major characteristics we look for in a candidate: (1) a commitment to public service, (2) the demonstration of leadership in the community, and (3) dedication to this administration. An applicant’s writing, communication, and office skills are also taken into account. If you are interested in re-applying for the summer 2011 White House Internship Program, we ask that you resubmit your application and three letters of recommendation. We encourage you to apply again in the near future and look forward to seeing your application.Thank you again for your interest in the program and for your commitment to public service.Sincerely, The White House Internship Team"

They also sent me an email today about other opportunities with several other agencies. Oh, and they asked me if I wanted to be a volunteer. lol.

Hope this maybe helped.

Regards.

Hey All,
Havent posted in a while. For those who havent been rejected there IS still hope. This isnt me just wishful thinking, but rather have been told that they literally still are in the process of making final decisions. So for those of you who live far away, just be prepared that there may be a chance that you have to move to dc within a 1-2 week notice.

Today is the last day for fall interns so I am guessing we will find out today…

Hey! Is anyone on here applying for Summer 2011? If so, how’s the application going so far?

Well, I still haven’t heard anything.
