White House Internship

just a question to calm the nerves. if they call and you aren’t able to pick up, what happens? do they leave contact info or try again?

I’m pretty sure they leave call back info., otherwise that would just be absurd and cold- hearted. Applicants have class, work, faulty technology and a life lol.

The background check is done during the first week of the internship. Previous interns who have been accepted have mentioned this. I believe this to be true if only because I worked for courts, public schools, and in my home state’s capital building- they all require a thorough background check- and can only be done in person with paperwork being signed, finger printing, etc. Its usually takes 2 days to 2 weeks to come back, but your employer allows you to work until then. I’m sure the White House could even process it faster than that.

Hey everyone! Glad to see that other people applied and got the vitals e-mail too. We’re all in this together  Just out of curiosity, and if you are comfortable saying, what were the top offices to which you applied?

I wonder if they do an initial check on the applicants just to cull anyone who really shouldn’t be moved through the process. D got a vitals email yesterday, too. In general, background checks vary somewhat from state to state and organization. Not sure if any security clearance is required for a WH internship, but that a whole different level of poking and prodding at your background. D has already been though that (which hopefully will help her application).

I’m sorry, did I miss something? Who is D?

I think they’re referring to their daughter?? I’m not sure, though…

D = daughter, S = son, DD = dear daughter, etc.

Hello everyone! I’m so glad I bumped into this site. I recently applied for the summer internship and I received the vitals e-mail but I dont know what to make of it. I wonder if everyone that applies gets this automated e-mail? I sure hope not. I also am very stressed out because I caught a typo on one of my essay questions. Its significant. It looks like word did an auto correct and changed my word duly to bully. Thats crazy! I did submit right at the deadline and was exhausted so thats why I didnt catch it then even with spell check. I wonder if I could edit that somehow or if they would give me the chance to fix it. I doubt it because of all the applicants who submited and didnt have a typo. Anyway I just thought I’d share and wonder how everyone else was doing on this. I hope I get it but If I dont I guess there’s always the fall which I’m starting to apply early. Anyhow I hope everyone shares if they get any interviews so we can expect or not expect a call. :-)

Well chat with you guys soon.

Sorry about not clarifying the abbreviation  I spend a lot more time over on the parent threads than here, as you can probably tell from my name, but hopped on here because I am excited about my daughter’s vitals email and wondered what it might mean. Yup, D=Daughter, S=Son, H=Husband, MIL = Mother in law… Well… you can guess what kind of stuff we talk about on the parent’s forums, our families. Good luck to everyone out here!

Thanks, thats good to know :-).

Hello I was wondering if anyone has heard anything on the summer internship? I’m really stressed out… Trying not to think about it but it’s hard.

If you look back a few posts, some people have received emails looking for vital statistic info (SSN, etc.). Haven’t heard of any interviews yet, though…

Thanks Intparent! I did read them. I received the vitals also just hoping for a call like everyone else I guess… Good luck to all who have applied!

Judging by the previous intern comments…we can all assume safely that we will start hearing about interviews next week! Since they’re going to declare the ones who got it starting on a rolling basis in a few weeks, yay. I’m excited! !!!

Does anyone think it’s strange that so many of us seemed to have received vitals? As much as I want everyone on here to succeed, it’s hard to believe that we’re all at an advantage when no one has reported not receiving the email.

That’s because THOUSANDS of people usually apply to this program, not everyone finds these forums, only the ones that are serious and determined to get in will fret like us :)

did anyone notice that the email on the vitals form is different than the email they told us to send the form to. In the email it says respond to that email with the vitals form yet on the top of the vitals form it said a different email to send it to. I sent it to both emails. Anyone else?

The form they attached is clearly out of date. It has “March 2010” on the top, that last year’s form lol. The email we received was written recently, so I deduced that we are supposed to reply to the email address the message came from.

But I don’t think it would hurt to do both, unless this is a test to see who can follow directions, and in that case 50% of us probably failed lol. That reminds me of when I was kid…

On the first day of school in 6th grade, my teacher told us he was giving us a test to see if we could follow directions. Only one student passed (out of 40). They’ve used this test on adults and most fail as well. Check it out, its hilarious, if you can imagine this play out in test- like setting:

Jeap13 I was thinking the same thing. I wondered if it’s just a mass automated email they send everyone… Ofcourse I want to be positive and think we are all just the lucky ones but like everyone I wonder what that form is really meant for.

On that note I also sent my
Vitals form to both emails just to be sure but I haven’t gotten confirmation they actually received it. Maybe they are not doing that.
