White House Internship

They received an email.

I am now able to confirm from another individual that received a rejection letter and HAD received vitals. Liberal, depending on what you tell us about your friend (if he got vitals or not) we will have a clearer picture as to how much vitals truly mean.

What I know:

Vitals have in the past come out in waves, presumably as certain departments initiate their screening.
Individuals who receive vitals seem to have been people who had departments that screened earlier than others in their top choices.
Individuals who receive interviews are not shoo ins.
Individuals who do not receive interviews are not necessarily eliminated.
Rejection letters are sent in waves.
Individuals who received vitals may still be eliminated in the first wave of rejection letters.
Individuals who did NOT receive vitals may still actually be in play beyond the first round of eliminations.

I’m not speculating because I’ll be crushed if I don’t get it, I’m just trying to shed some light on the process for posterity haha…

That is excellent news for those of you who didn’t receive a vitals email. We are all in the same boat! I started volunteering at the White House last year so I met a bunch of interns. I keep in touch with a few of them. They also confirmed that several people who received the vitals email, and a rejection email shortly after. I don’t know how it was for all of last year’s interns, but the ones I know got an email weeks after the vitals which had the day and time of their phone interview. Anyway, we survived week one! Let’s see each other through week two of notifications

i just had an interview - they just called me for it completely out of the blue

thanks for the synthesis convig

jcarlino FTW lol

My friend did NOT recieve the vitals but got the rejection letter last week* This is certain!

Those of u that were interviewed how did the call come through - unknown, private or did a number show up? Just wondering

Thanks

DC Area code phone call.

Okay so it seems that individuals who did and did not receive the vitals email both got letters of rejection.

I don’t know what to think anymore. Part of me is just waiting to be rejected since I have heard nothing from them since the vitals e-mail but now I just don’t know. It’s all so confusing that they release rejections in waves, don’t interview everyone at once, ect. I just want them to let me know something so that I know if I need to re-apply for fall (probably should do that anyway) but still…I think the lack of transparency, efficiency and consistency with this process is starting to wear on me. And on a side note, I really think it’s rude that they call people on the fly and expect them to be able to do interviews. I really think that’s not professional of them and I don’t care if they’re reading this because I hope they are.

You get to set a time for your interview ^^ it’s not on the fly, if you’re available then they will interview you on the spot but it’s entirely up to you. I mean it’s the White House!! They have the authority to be commanding lol.

Yep. If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen. It sucks but nobody MADE you reply.

@Convig: No, I know that no one made me apply. I didn’t mean to come off sounding cantankerous or whiny about the whole process and I’m sorry if it did appear that way. I guess I’m just stressed out since a lot of my plans are waiting on this internship, that’s all.
@liberalspirit: Thanks for the heads up about the interviews. I’m glad to know that they at least give you an opportunity to choose a better time if you’re not free right then and there. I take back what I said before if that’s the case.

no love lost buddy don’t worry about it. We’re all a smidge on edge.

i just phone interviewed last week and they said that they would get back to me within 2 weeks. has anyone heard from/interviewed with OPE?

hey guys, ive been following for a while and thought id add my two cents.

i applied for CoS, communications, and OPA, got an email for vitals and have not yet heard anything. no interview or anything of the such. im holding out like the rest of you and stressing. its comforting to check in here and know that (what seems like) most people have not yet received an answer one way or another.

good luck to everyone!

Hey guys,

I just found this forum this past weekend. I had an interview and the office that interviewed me told me that they are trying to pick someone within the week. I too am holding out on other summer opportunities. I can’t remember the last time I’ve felt so anxious.

Did anyone who had interviews ask them about how the selection process works?

“Someone from the Internship Program will be in touch with you.”

Not much help, but thought I’d pitch in on the last information I received.

Also, those who got a phone interview, did you know their names or was it random?

For example, I knew the name of my interviewer and their position in the WH. I was just wondering if it was the same for everyone else.

Has anyone had an interview with the office of health reform?

I was given the name and position of the person who interviewed me.
