White House Internship

I agreed with Giabella, but I did not want to speak up because everyone seemed to set that the person was real. I kept quiet to avoid further confrontation though. Although things change with each cycle, conditional acceptances went out with final rejections. It was very odd that we heard nothing else besides Possintern. Flames are people who spend all their time on chat boards trying to incite others, I believe that someone would create an account in advance to wreak havoc on this forum.

I did send Giabella a private message telling her I agree with her, but to rise above the drama and not personally attack people like that. I’ve decided to only critique people privately at this point. I’ve had my tiff with GoogleGuy, but what she said was so harsh! She never responded back and then her posts disappeared,so I am not sure what happened there…

But I wish they explained how they discover ■■■■■■? Does the moderator just use discretion and delete accounts…?

Has final notifications always come out before the next application deadline?

Also, how does one become a junior member? Do you have to have a certain number of posts? This is my new goal, to become a junior member ^_^.

I believe it is based on # of posts, W2EL. Also… we really aren’t supposed to comment on the moderators actions (too often that slides into criticism of them, and we can get censured for that). So I think we would be best off if we just pretend that those two posters were never here and focus on twiddling our thumbs while we wait :)

I was just slightly concerned that I would be considered a ■■■■■/flame, because I had no reason to believe that Giabella was one and I don’t think anyone else had suspected it. That person had more than 10 posts and had been on here for a month. I don’t think I was criticizing the moderator in any way, and if they feel the need to censor my previous statements, then this is not at all an open and public forum that promotes democracy in opinions.

I think this conversation is weaving back toward a dangerous direction. No need to draw more moderator attention haha! As for junior member, it is by number of posts. Has anybody heard anything today? All is quiet on my no-vitals/no-interview end…

Mmm, I certainly thought GB was one (although I am not the one who reported). GB’s responses were irrational and rude, IMHO. Not sure where it says this is a forum of democracy of opinions… it is a forum where people are expected to be reasonably respectful and not too obnoxious. Err on that side with your posts, and you will have no trouble. Me, I have gotten in hot water for posting links to what are considered blogs. The line is so darn fuzzy these days… but I am trying to be more careful, as I would be sad without CC :frowning: But the fact that I have had warnings goes to show that just because you have some posts does not mean you can’t derail a thread/treat others badly/break the rules, and get in trouble for it. I think the mods do a pretty good job. And… that is all I will say about this.

No more comments from me except about the topic at hand, WH interships. Did anyone hear The Story on Public Radio last year about the interns who were there when Nixon resigned? I don’t have a link, sorry, it was a podcast I downloaded.

called the WH internship office just to see if i could find out any information (the phone # is listed on much earlier pages of this forum). all i could get was “notifications will be occurring on a rolling basis” sorry i couldn’t get more, maybe someone else will have better luck…

Found a link to that podcast:

Something to do while you wait :)

Post 5oclock, cross tuesday off the calendar folks.

thanks for the link, intparent. great find and great story! :)

Thanks for the link intparent!

…and the waiting continues… taps foot impatiently

Considering that the Fall application is due this weekend, I hope we here before the week is over…

ditto that. This is cutting it super close.

I am getting a little tired of this.

I would have expected to hear something by now…

It’s been a long and tiring wait.

It has been nearly three weeks since the “beginning” of notifications.

playing devil’s advoocate here but they may be a littttttle preoccupied with other things!

I’m in the same boat as most of you (vitals + no int + SP email). I emailed the WH to confirm that all we need to do for our applications to be reconsidered for fall 2011 is to submit our ID numbers (sorry if this has been mentioned already). There is no need to re-submit letters of rec, the essays, and the application. So the rapidly approaching fall deadline shouldn’t worry us too much!

Of course, we may run into problems if we would like to update our resumes, tweak or re-write our essays, solicit better letters of recommendation, etc…does anyone know if we can re-submit our application the normal way?

Also, I haven’t had time to read through the past pages of this thread again, but I vaguely remember a similar past situation in which a lot of people in a class were left hanging as to whether they had gotten the internship or not; I remember reading about people being frustrated that the process had taken so long, and I seem to recall that most of them were rejected. Not trying to inject any negativity here! It just seemed like an eerily similar situation.

Jeap, you’re killing me :[ hahah

Google you’re right. I think we’ll hear Friday as well. A thursday result seems unlikely.
