I hope you make it! Even at my expense, haha! Its no less an honor to be an intern as well as knowing one, socializing with one as we have been the last couple of days. So, Good Luck to you and to all! :)

Btw, what office did you apply for if you do not mind sharing?

Im wondering if us Engineering majors are at a big disadvantage…(in my mind, imsaying: THANKS DAD FOR MAKING MAJOR IN THIS CRAP lol)

Hey. I have a small feeling this dream will not end on Friday. For some reason I think they will extend it again. I also think there is a small possibility they could be searching for ways to expand the program. Obama loves putting people in the streets… OFA anyone?

I AM THE WHITE HOUSE INTERN PROSPECT FREAK OUT PRESS SECRETARY AND I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE

Organizing for America. Obama’s post election street team. It’s quite genius really.

Their headquarters is in DC (obvi), and I could see him using extra interns to work in the office. Wouldn’t be so bad actually. As long as one could still participate in the WH Seminar Series

oooooooh, guess what, I may be able to meet Congressman Artur Davis this weekend. He is a law school classmate of the President and a great friend of his (first politician outside Illinois to endorse Obama in primaries) and has been speculated as being a new emerging leader of the Democrats since he has the ear of the President and what not…I am thinking of working and campaigning for Artur Davis in his Governor Bid for Alabama (ooops did i give my location away? lol not yet haha).

So, maybe this might be another way for me to make a break, get on the scene, and get cloes to the action :)

Yeah that would be cool. But make sure you are there for the right reasons. I’m not questioning the morality of your ambitions, but politics is more than “getting close to the action”.

Personally, I believe that the reason the game is so f’ed up is because too many people want to become politicians or get into politics to “get close to the action”.

It’s cool to want to be powerful, but make sure that your reasoning is to make tomorrow a better day for the people in which you represent. Far too often people have sought out these post in “the pursuit of prestige” not in the “pursuit of justice preservation”

So in return, you get a Congress/White House/Governor’s Mansion full of people who are disenfranchised with the people, because their motivation for obtaining office was never rooted in the will of the people.

Just his/her own selfish ambitions. So, selfish they will pander to a group of people promising them better days, only to deliver to promises made to those who financed their campaigns.

I’m not saying that is you…I’ve just been dying to get that off my chest.lol

“When the grass is cut the snakes will show”

IM THE WHITE HOUSE INTERN PROSPECT FREAK OUT PRESS SECRETARY AND I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE AND WISH I COULD DELIVER IT TO EVERY ELECTED OFFICIAL IN OFFICE. THEN WE WOULD HAVE REAL CHANGE. AND I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE.

hey guys! OK today is the last day that I’ll be on the thread for a while (actually probably not, I have a 4.5 hour drive ahead of me & packing & driving to another campus tomorrow). Soooo nothing here so far, I think tomorrow is THE day. Please let it be?

Anyways it’s not 4-6:30 time area yet so who knows! Good luck all! (no new rumors??)

i’m writing my final politics paper and guess what it’s about?

THE EXECUTIVE!! yay!

maybe it’ll be enough to hold me over to tomorrow without freaking out

ps. nupenupeyooo:
I definitely agree that the reason people should pursue politics should not be to “get close to the action” but at our level, as interns, getting close to the action is the best way understand the government and know what exactly we want to pursue in the future. And getting close to the action may not be just to feel the excitement and pressure, but to get close enough to be able to understand HOW we can make a change in tomorrow. I definitely want to get close to the action, because i want to be a part of the ever-changing government and policies and play a role, not just to be able to say that i was close to the action and the going-ons in the government.

But I totally agree with you that just wanting to feel powerful is not reason enough want to play a role in politics. There should be more behind it

I’m writing my final politics paper too!! But it’s on analyzing the China-Sudan relationship… not quite as relevant to any White House internship.

If I don’t get this (or when I don’t… I just want a letter stating the decision plainly), I am going to apply in all fields and take what I can get.

And I’m going to invite Jimmy Carter to lunch, I decided that.

And all these people coming out of the woodwork… I beat you all. I am the ultimate creeper. I have been following ever since AwesomeOpossum had replied to a different thread ages ago… I win.

Wow. Well, I’ve been addicted to this thread. I wonder if there have been any acceptances yet. And if so why aren’t they on this thread. I know if I got in already I’d be desperately searching for others online to share stories.Unless…

I’m pretty sure there haven’t been any acceptances yet. I trust someone would post something if they heard back (right?! right?! haha) and seems like there are enough very highly qualified people on this thread that at least some of us would get accepted (knock on wood!).

BUT! We’re making facebook groups once we find out?! Totes excited am I.

you are soo right on that, especially about the Prestige thing and etc.

zam4q:

and so right about how we do infact need to be close to the action so we can see how things work and how we can contribute to change, etc.

I am happy to see that I am around not only bright individuals, but ethical as well! maybe the upcoming generatiion of leaders will have truly embraced Change, not only in theory, but in practice as well :)

I agree with being there for the right reasons…

and fine, Ill give it away, Im in Alabama…in the middle of nowhere, haha

my point is, is that coming from a very poor state, 48th or 49th in education, and many more depressing ranks, lol, I really see what Americans need of their government. Sad to say, that our racial history still plagues us today, and I would like to take part in shifting the trajectory that my state is taking for the better, not as it is under ideologues, etc.

So, I hope getting close to the action will serve as an apprenticeship so that I may one day be aable and competent to take the reigns and guide my fellow Alabamans and Americans for a better day in the future, and not just dwell on the past, etc.

Dude you people are awesome. “OBAMA IF YOU ARE LISTENING. WE HAVE ALREADY CONDUCTED OUR INTERVIEWS ONLINE…LOL…JUST READ OUR THREAD…WE EVEN DISPLAYED OUR ETHICAL COMMITMENTS…WE ARE WHAT YOU WANT… RATHER WHAT YOU NEED!”

It seems nobody got a phone call this week, so they probably narrowed down the pool. The question I want to know is why didn’t they just send out rejections for the people they knew they weren’t going to accept at the beginning of the week and spare some of us(mostly me) the anxiety of this week.

I think if I along with other can have “Change” be done in Alabama, it can be done anywhere. Trust me. Haha

and while in my mind, Race should not be a factor in a candidate, the african-american race of Congressman Artur Davis is what really has me foaming-at the mouth (haha) to get close, to see if we can actually do this in Alabama. Alabama has come a long way. From the Selma March, Rosa Parks, MLK, Birmingham Church Bombings, and many more atrocities to having a legitimate contender for the Governorship of Alabama. and I would love to be close to making history, and in addition, doing what is right for the people of Alabama, etc. And from that, I hope to make a career of not what is prestigious and name-making, but doing what is right…
