maybe a dumb question, but what is a vitals e-mail?

If you read over the past application cycles on this board, those who are more seriously considered seem to get what has been dubbed a “Vitals e-mail” basically asking for contact information etc… In the past this is has been a good sign, but by no means a definite acceptance/rejection.

After this vitals e-mail - phone interviews are generally conducted. Not everyone gets a vitals email, but those who get the phone interviews tend to have received the email. It appears the emails and phone interviews are done sporadically during the process although the emails seemed to come out within a few days of each other.

For the most part, but not always, it appears that those that the WH are interested in will receive the phone interviews before the notification date.

This is all from reading prior posts on this board if anyone wants some more details. Just look for the month or two before the last cycle of apps was due.

Joizey, did you get it today? Guess I’m out of the running. As far as I know, vitals email is required for a basic background check, which is needed for the internship. Well, good luck!

I got the vitals email too! I got it just now, so I guess it comes out in batches.

Does anyone know if certain departments are more competitive than others?

I got one today too! Yay!

no e-mail :-/

cate2012, don’t count yourself out yet. I think more are still coming out.

Congrats.

To those of you who received the email, would you be willing to shine any light on your background? I’ve always wondered about the educational and professional backgrounds of the folks who make it into candidacy.

I received the email a few days ago. I didn’t think it was real at first; the date on the letter was wrong and I thought that they had that information already. I actually emailed the WH and asked if it was real to make sure it wasn’t some identity theft letter hahahaha I may have blown it there but that’s what Jersey will do to you.

I wouldn’t count anybody out. We’re talking a span of 4-5 days here where people got those emails, and they extended the application deadline so the whole process time line is probably mixed up a bit. If anybody gets a phone interview email please post. That’s gotta be a good indicator of your chances. I can’t see them giving an internship to someone based solely on the application.

yeah, hopefully I will see an e-mail soon! I second darkhorse2010’s request–would anybody being willing to share their qualifications? I believe that I am definitely underqualified compared to the majority of applicants, but wanted to apply anyway.

cate2012 & darkhorse2010, I think everyone is coming from different backgrounds. Last Fall/Spring, a lot of JD’s got the internship, but I don’t think that’s the norm. Also, I think the people who should be giving advice are those CCers that got the internship and have spoken to other interns. They’d have a pretty good idea of what the White House is looking for. What we do know is the White House says they’re looking for “a commitment to public service,” someone who has “demonstrated leadership in the community,” and “a commitment to the mission of the Obama Administration.” So, I’d say a lot has to do with impressive ECs and showing leadership such as overcoming obstacles in life ie someone who volunteered in an orphanage in Africa or someone who has overcome the struggles of poverty might have a better shot than someone with a 4.0 from Harvard. But I could be wrong. :)

no e-mail yet here… I’ll give it another week before I loose all hope

trp8822, it’s the weekend. You never know what’ll happen on Monday!

darkhorse2010, didn’t the White House email you to reapply?

Greetings Everyone!

I am new to CC but have been reading the threads. Very helpful! I wish everyone the best of luck. Have a great 4th. Also, I can’t wait to read the posts on Monday!

Cheers.

What is the dress code for a white house internship? Are guys required to wear ties everyday? Thanks!

southcarolinaboy, everyone is required to wear 3 piece suits. I believe men must wear ties.

Question - once you’re accepted as a white house intern, are you expected to go through the TS/SCI (top secret) clearance process like they do at other federal government agencies?

Hi all, I’ve been watching this thread for a bit as well and thought I’d finally join in. I got the vitals email but haven’t heard anything this week. Anybody get phone interviews?

I got the vitals email a week or two ago. But when I went to fill in the PDF, it repeatedly said that info couldn’t be saved into the fields, meaning that I could not send the document back to the WH filled out. I was very frustrated because I have applied every time and never been prompted to fill out the vitals. I sent the WH my vital info via the general info email, and I attached the malfunctioning PDF to my email. I asked them to confirm receipt of my vitals info, but I never got any confirmation (not that I really expected one). Did anyone else have this problem? Also, of those that received the vitals email, did you eventually get a phone interview? I have not.

I just got an email asking to schedule a 15 minute phone interview.
So nervous!
