White male only scholarship

I like how everyone complains about minority scholarships. Please send me some cause i can’t find very many that are minority exclusive. Even if minority scholarships didn’t exist, its not like their gonna create more universal scholarships because the organizations that raise the money wouldn’t exist. People act like minorities dominate post-secondary education when, in fact, only a small fraction even graduate high school. Also, NO women should complain about minority scholarships when they get more money than any ethnic group.

Women aren’t an ethnic group.
You can’t compare, because there are many ethnicities within that group.

I think scholarships serve one of two purposes (generally):

to ensure precocious kids pursue eduction, or to be equalizers (to make sure those that are disadvantaged receive the same opportunities as others).

A white-male scholarship doesn’t explicitly do either, which is the problem I think. Sure, there are some disadvantaged white texan males, but then they would probably do better to apply for some need-based scholarships.

Whites can have just as many financial issues as any other race. Because there are so many exclusively Black, Hispanic, Native American, etc. scholarships, this leaves whites with less options than said races. A whites only scholarship gives Caucasians the opportunity to apply for a scholarship without the competition of other races. Without any whites only scholarships, whites are put at a huge disadvantage because they do not have the luxury of a reduced applicant pool that minorities enjoy.

Logically, it makes perfect sense. There is no white supremacy or passive-aggressive racism going on here. Anyone who thinks so has underdeveloped reasoning skills.

the scholarships are funded by someone, and that someone can do what he wants with his money. Even if he is a closet KKK member.

White male- only scholarships are great. Now, they can stop complaining about minority scholarships.

I didn’t say women are an ethnic group, but they are a minority and get more scholarship money than any ethnic person might get (especially in male dominate professions).

Women are minorities? No wonder I can’t get a girlfriend.

Women are not a minority. o.O I mean, I guess, technically, if people decided to start aborting their daughters so they could only have sons, then maybe… but in general, Probability tells us that the world is 50% male and 50% female.

Anyways… I don’t understand why another race would be more disadvantaged in today’s world. I come from a family of only white people, yet I’ll only be the third person to graduate from high school on my mother’s side and the first to attend college. The culture in my family is to drop out of school and school has never been encouraged to be important within my family (except for say my mother and father). I have 8 first cousins on my mother’s side and only one has graduated. He’ll probably be my only cousin to graduate.

People seem to assume that if you’re white, your parents care about education… but that really isn’t true. I know plenty of people who never had any sort of educational push from their parents.

Women are a minority in certain professions. But a more accurate label is “disadvantaged” group because many people still think with the male superiority complex.

But I agree with the second thing you said. I think it’s more on the basis of discrimination of employers (which very much happens today-my post on “what is racism” can give you current examples). The thinking is, and this is likely to happen, that in the case of a white and non white student competing for jobs with similar qualifications, the white student would be chosen. There’s a book/movie (the name eludes me) that is comprised of ACTUAL instances in a survey where a group made up a job application, one with a “white name” and one with a “black name.” the white applicant was chosen every time, with a majority of bosses in the country being white.

But it’s hard for people to argue against something they haven’t experienced. Just because slavery, the holocaust, the Chinese exclusion act, and Japanese internment camps didn’t happen yesterday, there’s a mindframe that never goes away. You can read as many books and watch as many movies about these things, but you can’t ever begin to fathom the mentality of minority peoples. Today, most people say “that was a long time ago” or “they get all these opportunities and resources but they don’t use them so why should we care/help.”

It’s a mentality. AUGirl-I understand with what you’re saying; in your case, it’s your family’s mentality to not have college as a “you WILL attend” option (please don’t take offense, I don’t mean it in any way.) someone not in your position wouldn’t understand.

After generations of being told “you’re just a worthless _____”, “you’ll never get anywhere”, etc, a mentality develops. A prevalent in the black (and hispanic?) community is “being smart is stupid. Be a rapper. Get pregnant as a teenager. Get on welfare. Live in the projects. Do what your parents did (nothing.)”
It’s a mentality no one can understand. I’m black and I see it all around me. My grandma wanted to be a forensic scientist, she was Val of her class. Did they educate blacks on going to college? No. Would a black person likely be accepted anyway (back then)? No. So she worked her whole life. Had a baby young. Did what my great grandmother did (work.) it’s hard to break a cycle like that and I applaud you AUGirl because I understand what you’re dealing with. My mother is the first to go to college and she has a professional degree (nurse.) she had to go against and ENTIRE mentality, because even then she thought the same way too, and didn’t go to college straight after high school (again, blacks weren’t educated on going to college, went to the military instead, then worked for a few years.)

The first Google link turned up 200, so I stopped looking. Some random clicking around showed that some involved need, others did not. Maybe this will help someone looking, like you said.

[200 Free Scholarships for Minorities from Black Excel](200 Free Scholarships for Minorities from Black Excel)

This is fine as long as those white male’s household incomes aren’t exceeding 100,000.

Billy- ive used that before. Most are outdated/dont work

Okay; someone just asked for a list of hundreds, so I used the first list to appear.

I’m sure they were in date at some time and that there are a lot of others.

Didn’t mean it in the way it came across…

I didn’t take it to mean anything but what you said; I didn’t think you were arguing with me.

They say 200; is that what YOUR research got? I tend to look farther than gogle.

I wasn’t looking for a google link. I was looking for a" blacks only" non need based scholarship. With the exception of a few local sorority or fraternity ones for less than a thousand dollars, in three years. after getting past the broken links, and links to MORE links, I didn’t find ANY for which need was not a factor.

Jackie Robinson was the first on the list with a working link, that described an award;

Eligibility
To be eligible for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must:

* Be a graduating, minority high school senior;

 • Plan to attend an accredited and approved four–year institution within the United States;
 • Show leadership potential;
 • Demonstrate a dedication to community service;
 • Present evidence of financial need;
 • Be a United States citizen;
 • A minimum SAT score of 1,000 combined on the math and critical reading sections or a composite ACT score of 21; and
 • Not possess a degree from a 2 or 4–year College when applying for the scholarship

BTW; I, have no problem with “white male” scholarships, but I have a problem with the idea that URMs “have it made” and are a threat to others in higher education,

Didn’t look too much into it. As for those under $1000… The white male one is only $500.

Lol, I was searching for scholarships and internships. Here’s one of the qualifications for one of them: “minority students (African American, Hispanic/Latino/Chicano, Pacific Islander, Native American).”

…but I’m a minority student, too! We take all the *$&% any minority gets without any of the perks. Sigh.

“Didn’t look too much into it.”

I don’t think people should keep repeating the “hundreds of URM scholarships” idea as fact without looking much into it,

I cannot turn up any undergrad scholarships, exclusively for blacks, that don’t include need.

With regard to the $1000 ones, I know about one because I personally raise funds for it in my county, even though my own child is not eligible because he is male.
