Having a hard time deciding between the two undergrad business programs. Any advice or opinions would be great. We are OOS for Maryland. Exclude the financial part. Thank you.
If your child is in at Whitman, s/he’s in.
Smith is competitive admissions except for direct admits - basically, odds are against them if not direct admit.
So, Whitman direct admit is a better choice than non direct admit at Maryland. If your child is direct admit at Maryland, I would consider the programs they’re interested in, the pre-reqs, opportunities for business study abroad and internships.
Thanks so much. He was direct admit to smith.
So confused.
focus on alumni and strength within intended area. What type of networking events happen on campus, events in major cities and online listings. Ask for analysis of outcomes. Not all schools do this which to me is a red flag. If not willing to invest in understanding outcomes then how committed is the school in outcomes generally?
Living in New York, the Syracuse alumni seems so solid. Great points that you bring up that I will have to look into.
Ok then two direct admits, it’s going to be purely “fit”. Can he do an overnight at both?
@Ambcz1221 My son’s friend is at Whitman and loves it. They have had a lot of innovations recently–the Goodman Impress program, a Whitman consulting group, new curriculum, lots of clubs and organizations for whatever your area of interest is (finance, entrepreneurship, consulting). A big benefit is you can also do a dual major with the Newhouse school of communications if you keep up good grades. He has been on a two day field trip to NYC to meet with corporate leaders who have a Syracuse connection. Good internship opportunities. Edge to Syracuse if your son wants to work in NY State, particularly NYC.
