Who actually reads my application?

So do they people who look over all the applications see your whole application, or is it broken up into parts? Does one person read your essays and another looks at your academic profile?

How do they actually determine if you are worthy enough to get in? Do they “score” you and if you make the cutoff, you’re in? Or do they just look at it and if you seem like a well-rounded student they let you in?

Also, do the people that admit actually work in the university(as in, are they professors or anything)?

I’m pretty sure multiple admission officers are involved in evaluating each application. And no they’re usually not professors, they’re simply admission counsellors.

Do they all read every part of the application or do they focus on an individual part?

I suspect the answer may vary depending on colleges. However, based on how it has been described to us (and as much as I can remember) on college tours, I believe at least one (or two?) admissions officers read your application in it’s entirety. But I believe the final decision rests on the committee as a whole. I’m sure someone on this board will have a more definitive and complete answer.

Thank you for the speedy reply!

  1. Your regional admission officer (Or methodically assigned one for every college)
  2. Second reader, if necessary
  3. Committee vote

If your application is deemed noncompetitive, it may not reach the committee vote.

Is that only for small schools?
