If you got into LSA/Engineering and if you are awaiting your Ross Preferred admit decision, then this is your thread.

I called of the B-School today and they said they are starting to look at the applications for the people who applied and got into Michigan around September.

I got into LSA and am waiting for the ross decision. Do you know when people heard back last year? I am hoping that a rec. letter from the american management association will help!

um, i didn't read the directions on the application directly but i believe u can't do both engineering and ross. i think u hafta apply lsa and then ross pre-admit...but i could be wrong as well...

Last year, it seemed like a few heard back as early as January, but most don't hear back until March/April (my recollection based on threads last year). I was accepted into LSA shortly before Christmas and was not accepted as a pre-admit until around March 20th.

I'm just a freshman pre-admit now, but Ross gives us very special attention. They have social gatherings, guest speakers from the business world, wonderful advising, etc. Frankly, I can't believe how good the program is... especially since this is the first year. Also, we take two B-School classes during the second semester of our freshman year.

As for Stern, it is also a great school. However, the campus has a totally different feel than Michigan (both pro and con). In the end, I decided I wanted the "full college experience" and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Stern is also quite different than Wharton, even though both are in large cities. Wharton has a true college atmosphere while Stern melds into NYC.

As for Wharton, I applied, was deferred, and eventually rejected. If I would have been offered admission, I believe I probably would have accepted. However, I actually liked Michigan a little better, for non-academic reasons, but Wharton would be hard to pass up. (They're numero uno for good reason.)

The one thing Wharton can't match is the sports... and I'm not a big sports fan. I knew what a touchdown was, but not a lot more, before attending my first game in the Big House. Right now, you couldn't drag me away from Michigan... but I might be saying the same thing if I went to Penn. Also, I don't see how Wharton could offer the same level of attention to their freshmen since there are only 62 of us.

"Are stats a big part in getting into Ross preferred admit? I have heard that it's not."

The Fall 2006 Admits had an average UM GPA of 3.8, 31 ACT, and 1419 SAT. Also, they had a pretty demanding high school course load.

Ross says that in assessing pre-admit students: (1) There is no "weighting" system - everything you submit in your application is reviewed (2) Grades are important, as are quantitative skills (for example, 84% had AP Calc), (3) Essay quality is important, (4) Extracurricular depth is important - the Admissions Committee values quality over quantity.

It is interesting that standardized test scores are not mentioned, although I personally don't know of any non-URM who had an ACT score below 30 (and I only know one of these... although we don't really go around comparing stats).

Several threads have noted the importance of the B-School essay. I do believe they put more weight on the essay than you would ordinarily expect, and you should certainly focus on this aspect in your application.

Anhydrosis, i didnt know preadmits take bschool classes freshman year, what classes are you going to take?

I'm a sophomore at ross and so far, the professors have all been brilliant and awesome. Also i like that class sizes will never exceed 70 (and thats only for core classes, electives are smaller).

Niihla10, we are required to take BIT 200: Personal Productivity with Information Technology (1.5 credits) and LHC 250: Introduction to Business Communication (1.5 credits).

Actually, you start with a couple of BBA classes during your second semester freshmen year if you are a pre-admit, plus you attend several seminars on various topics beginning the first week of school.

I don't recall what day of the week I received my acceptance, except that was in mid to late March... but before the Ivies and other top schools sent out their notices around April 1.

I see someone already received their pre-admit acceptance. I don't recall seeing any acceptance post this early last year... so maybe they will speed up their timetable since they have been through the pre-admit drill before. However, I wonder if Prop. 2 regarding affirmative action will slow things down for awhile. I believe today is the day it was suppose to take effect.
