Who applied to UCR?

its not my top choice(UCLA is but thats prob not happening) but I am excited that decisions will be coming out so soon compared to other UCs..
i really wish all UCs would come out already lol
from last years posts it looks like they release decisions right at midnight

I did. I’m very excited, but nervous as well. Especially because I am not taking a planned course I had listed. I let them know but I’m hoping it doesn’t hurt me for UCR since I’m assuming they are nearly done reviewing applications and they might not see my update.

I am dreaming of Berkeley, hoping for Davis, eyeballing San Diego, considering Santa Barbara, and would definitely not mind Riverside.

No knock on anybody who thinks highly of Riverside, but they are less competitive so I’d be really scared if I get rejected from Riverside because then I think I might have no shot at acceptance at my higher hopes.

I’ve heard of UCR rejecting overqualified applicants because they very most likely won’t be attending the school but who knows.

The first decisions are starting to come out in a week! Good luck all

@TheUnderdog1 I’m sure you will be fine since your still going to have enough units/IGETC.
Im nervous i won’t get into an UCs because I have 2 Ws in non transferable math and will be completing Stats this spring. I really hope i get into UCR or any UC.
My top choice is UCLA(dream school), and UCSD(really want to live there) than UCI because its not that far that from me. I wouldn’t mind going to UCR and UCSB but because of math i doubt I will get into UCSB. I did apply to UCB but I HIGHLY doubt i will get in do to no ECs.

@smltk1505h really? wow crazy. Well I’m hoping i get in! lol Im actually scared I won’t get into any UCs. Hope I get into at least one.

Your stats are competitive enough to make your chances of getting admitted pretty high in my opinion. And there’s no evidence that UCLA (Or Any other UC besides Santa Barbara) really cares about W’s or doing your last math class in spring.

I didn’t apply to UCR myself. The school doesn’t really appeal to me.

W’s dont really effect your admission into UC’s obviously except UCLA and UCB, UCSB i think are strict on not having more then 2 W’s on your prereq’s but i have to go review it again. Unfortunately for me i have about 5 to 6 W’s in the past 5 years so graduate school for me seems pretty rough considering it effects your application to grad school

-Edited: Running ArchLinux in Vmware, typing too fast -.-

@Cayton i honestly didn’t think i would even get into CSUs at one point. Mostly because of my math, I’m just horrible at it, not being able to pass kind of made my paranoid i guess lol. I applied to almost all UCs except UCD UCSC and UCM. I figured the more i applied to the better my chances lol.

My spouse is dead set against UCR though doesn’t want to move out there. I wouldn’t mind though

@Charger76 does it really effect grad school? I had no idea! I have three total 2 in same non transferable math and 1 for a history course which is my major… it wasn’t exactly a required class, but still. Im more than likely just going to a CSU for grad school anyway.

@sonic23

I understand your paranoia; we all experience it at one point as transfer students, but trust me when I say that I think your chances of getting in at UCLA are great.

I hope to see you post in the official 2014 UCLA admission thread(Whenever that gets made and whenever UCLA releases admission decisions) saying you got admitted, bro. I am genuinely optimistic about your chances.

As long as you’re doing fine in your stats class and in that history class taught by that crazy professor you told us about, I think you’ll be fine. I hope we get into UCLA together man!

@sonic23 Yeah, I have a 2 W’s as well though they are at my last college from over 2 years ago. I’ve been killing it pretty much since I switched to Santa Monica College though so that should help having an upward trend. You should be fine though because a W is better than a fail.

My wife is also not very fond of the idea of Riverside, but the family housing is incredibly cheap compared to other UC’s. Plus they are stand alone little homes. So UCR isn’t too bad in my opinion, but it would be nice if we could all go to our dream schools.

@Cayton Thanks its good to hear supportive feedback from others. My history teacher is crazy! lol but i’ll hang in there. Im really looking forward to hearing from UCLA, took a tour and campus is insane. From all of the UCs and CSUs I’ve toured UCLA was truly the nicest campus imo. It felt like i belonged there, I guess because its my dream school right? Ha but i do hope we can attend UCLA this fall!

@TheUnderdog1 RIGHT! UCR family housing seems amazing! In all honestly I was shocked when I saw the cost. I mean there not even apartments there actual little houses. They looks nice too, have you scene the virtual tours of them on UCR website? The idea of living out there in the middle of no where seems better because of that. However I am scared that I won’t get in only because we don’t have any children. They give top priority to students whose families have a child. So I’d pretty much be at the bottom of the list.

@sonic23

We’ll get in. ;)

@sonic23 Without a doubt the most bang for your buck as far as family housing. Berkeley’s pricing is crazy, and I think LA is pretty bad as well. Yeah I have taken the virtual tour, and was pretty impressed. It is definitely tempting to save the money and just go there (if I get in). My toughest decision will be if I get into Cal, and Riverside as strange as that sounds. Lol. Berkeley is amazing, but Riverside is much more cost friendly in my case.

I do have a 16 month old so I will be given priority over you, but you should still apply. A lot of couples don’t want to live in family housing because they think they NEED a kid to qualify so you won’t have many to compete with in that area. Also Riverside is fairly cheap so some families would prefer to find homes elsewhere, possibly closer to a potential job.

Just talking about this stuff makes me anxious. I just want to know already. I’m so nervous now that I dropped my class because right after someone told me I’d be less competitive now. Ughhh.

@TheUnderdog1 UCLA family housing is very expensive! However the area is very nice. I applied to UCB but even if I some how get in I can’t go since our jobs don’t transfer there. I just wanted to apply and see if I got in lol. If I end up going to UCR I would still apply to UCR housing just to see if i get a spot because you never know right? Was it a pre req? If not you will be fine, I was thinking of dropping a class didn’t only because I’m so close to 60 units…anyway searched through tons of threads, and pretty much everyone who dropped a class spring and contacted schools had No problem and were still accepted. UCLA rep said it would be fine, this rep not only works admissions but will be one of the people going through transfer applications. I remember someone asking during a transfer workshop.

Good luck! I also applied to UCR and am anxiously waiting. Although I don’t think I’ll be able to check right at midnight since the server might slow down a whole lot (like with any other UC websites)

Has anyone checked there portal today? Mine showed for new announcement and a poll with two questions. One said

You probably received admission packets from universities other than UCR. We sent you a 2D admission packet with a letter written just to you!

But tell us, how did our admission packet compare to the others you got? Choose the best answer.

Anyone else see this?

@sonic23 I just checked UCR portal and it says “Congratulations!! You have been admitted.” I don’t see the poll question though.

Is the portal link: my.ucr.edu ? Nothing changed on mine
