Who applies to Duke Early Decision>? vs. UPENN

Hey guys, I was wondering who does DUKE accept Early Decision. I mean I am out of state with good chances but nothing phenomenal.

Do most people who get accept ED comprise of: athletes, legacies, in-state, prestigious national and international-ranked award winners in academics, under represented minorities?

-Duke only gets about 1,380 applicants for ED. Why is it that Penn who has the same admissions rate for ED, gets way more apps and acceptances? I know that they fill about 50% of their class ED, but still think about it. Wouldn’t you presume that the people Duke accepted ED (about 450 people) are more of the athletes, legacies, urms… etc… I mean I could see that at Penn, the 450 may fit this category and the rest of the 800-900 are merely good students. So what do you think about this argument?

I mean I do not fit any of those quotas/hooks and so I am curious especially at Duke…

I am ruminating between which to apply to as I plan on ED. I would love to go to either one and would not regret a deciison between the two.

Thanks for your help.

I don't know about the effect of other factors you mentioned on ED acceptance, but state residency shouldn't play a role, since both schools are private institutions.

other advice?

contrary to what people think, state residency does play a major role for some private college including Duke.

other thoughts guys?
