Who are Penn's EDers?

Ok so I feel like I’ve been on this forum talking about Penn with the same 10-15ish people for a month, but I still don’t really know anything that matters about you guys!!
:(:(

Haha and I donno this might be a bad idea but I just feel like as December 14th comes closer we’re really going to be rallying together on this board so I thought it might be fun to actually get to know the peopleee behind all the undoubtedly amazing grades/SAT scores.

So I guess I’ll start! I’m Jenny I live 40 minutes outside of Boston in a burb where everyone sails/skis/golfs etc, and it’s filled with the type of people that the Schmirnoff Tea Partay was based on. So yea… West Philly here I come! I applied as a physics major because I’ve spent all my time doing research majigs over the summer and I thought I really liked it, but I’m thinking if I get accepted I actually might want to be an English major or something. I do my share of partying, but in the past year school really took over my life and I kind of put that whole scene on the backburner. I love debate and I love Penn and this board either keeps me sane, or is slowly making me more neurotic by the day. Lol and that’s all i can really think of right now

How bout you all??

Hi I am Pyar (should i say my real name?). Anyway, I live about an hour away from NYC on Long Island. I live in a really small town and there is only about 800 kids in my school, so basically everyone knows everyone. There isnt really any cliques (did i spell that right?) in my school since it is so small. There are different groups of people but many people are part of many groups. I am like the only Indian in the school, other than my twin brother (thats right i said TWIN) and like 2 other people. I used have my heart set on being a doctor (pediatrician) like a typical asian but after 9th grade bio rat disections (worst experience of my life lol) i changed my mind. With a little persuasion from my dad, I decided that i was going to do business, investment banking specifically. But i still love science (except physics).

Math used to be my favorite subject but know i really like all of them (again except physics). Did i mention that i hate physics? lol My school is also very poor (old people always vote no for the budget cause they dont want higher taxes :() so we have very few clubs but we do have some pretty good sports teams. We are on the north shore so everyone goes to the beach. what else can i say. i love science fiction books. I AM TOTALLY OBSESSED WITH CC lol.

I really want to go to Penn!! But realistically i know in my heart that i have no chance of gettign in and that i will probably be rejected. I have like 3 colleges i know ill get into, 2 that are 50/50, and 6 that i have no shot of getting into. Whichever one out of that top 8 that i do get accepted to i will probably go to. If im not even accepted to any of them then ill probably go to BC. I am totally pysched about penn, though, and cant wait for the decision. If im rejected im defenitely gonna transfer in later lol. Well thats about it for now. I think thats a good summary of my life. :)

oh p.s. i listen to all kinds of music. pop, rap, alternative, country, 80s, rock, love songs (yes i said love songs aka celine dion, etc) and american idol (january 16 i cant wait!!)

Hey, I'm Place8726 haha. And I love music more than anything. Music is my best friend and it's always there for me.

Well, I am sristi. My nickname is sristi, which I actually like. My real name sounds horrible. Well, I came to the US when I was really really young but I was born in UK. I am from the Indian subcontinent and I lived there for five years. So I am fluent with the language and I can also read and write in it. I am also fluent in Hindi, thanks to television. I am pretty good with Arabic also.
Well, I live in Nevada. I go to a pretty good high school. Our school is probably one of the best in the state. The teachers (most of them) are excellent and really care about their work. We have pretty good extracurriculars as we are a pretty well to do school. Most kids here drive brand new cars. :(
I accidentally stumbled across CC while searching for prep materials for AP Chem. I think this site was the best prep. I learned so much. I went from scoring constant 2s to a 5 just over spring break. Well, then I discovered the obsessive side of CC.
Last year I wanted to apply ED to columbia since my parents are moving to Long Island next year. Yeah, I am old fashioned! I am not moving out until I get married. My cousin went to Penn and he said that I will have a better chance at Penn. So I did some research and found that Penn has a better (and probably one of the best) bioengineering program than columbia.
I want to be a researcher when I grow up. I will probably get a MD/PhD and work in research.

My hobbies currently are always feeling tired even though I dont have much to do, eating like crazy (depression?), and coming on CC to daydream.

When I am normal, I like to play online games, read Harry Potter, and organize my closet by color.

I am 4815162342, and props to anyone who can figure what that is. I'm male, korean, and from the southern states. I am, without a doubt, one of the low par CC users on this forum. And right now, I'm supposed to be working on the UCBerk app which is due tommorow.

4815162342, Those are the LOST numbers I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

yea i think you're right.

^ doesnt that have something to do with Lost? - House is the best show on primetime network television, btw.

hm. well... im an indian chick. very stereotypically at that. a hopeless romantic and more on the FOB side than anything else. mostly, im a Dancer. music, dance, & theatre make up the substance of my days. im from miami (the sucky poor side) - and yes, ive spent christmas at the beach. (yes, dwyane wade/shaq live around here b/c the heat are gangsters lol.) but i really want philadelphia for everything south florida is not. my mothers my best friend, my fathers the bane of my existence (and crazy too). you can probably make me do anything if theres food involved (veg, of course) and i have a knack for languages, interior design, and bio. im one of those ppl who hate real life emotion & confrontation but will overanalyse every thematic point of life - and love every smile i can conjure.

the rents expect premed out of penn - i just wanna learn about the world. a south asian studies major & bio minor, i want to do something for the half of my family suffering in sub-par hospitals back home. maybe raise a family :)

all in all, i havent had the most blessed childhood. but ive found a haven in the IB dorks who are my friends and the culture that i so proudly revel in.

ps: i have a fetish for gujjus... it might be a factor in my applying to penn :D
pps: long walks on the beach, anyone? miami is more beautiful at night.

darn you cheaters. Lost is the best show ever, by the way.

I'm from Greensboro, NC
I'm an Indian (born there, lived 7 years, came to America). I go to a public school with 1200+ kids. My parents are average Indians...but not the gas station or motel type of people lol
I'm vegetarian

I applied to Penn because in 9th grade I found out Wharton was the best business school, and I absolutely love business. As cheesy as this sounds, I think I was born to change the way people live. Seriously, I love technology! Any kind, computers, audio equipment, TV's, anything...and I plan to start a technology company after I graduate (well..a few years after graduation).

I want to go to Penn not because of the investment banking and high paying jobs. But because of the education, which is simply amazing. I love the campus, I could live on Locust Walk (no joke, it was simply amazing to me).

I'm from a medium sized city, but I think Philly would be fun.

If I don't get into Penn (which will likely happen because my SAT I and SAT II sucked compared to CC people), I will attend UNC or Wake Forest (If I get into one of those, I have a decent chance...not excellent, but good chance I guess).

I will probably not transfer to Penn, I will end up getting a degree and maybe in the future get an MBA from Penn. But u never know. Penn is the best college out there for me.

I'm from western PA. Go to small, kinda poor (450 students) public HS. Probably don't have a shot but applyed ED to SEAS..want to do bioengineering.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about Philly yet, but I think I'd like it. I also like Pitt and received merit aid so I'll probably end up there if Penn doesn't work out.

heh, im an indian from new jersey :)

i attend a public school of about 700 kids through all 4 grades. yea, i live in a fairly small, yet economically well-off town.

i applied to Penn SEAS ED as a bioengineering major (woowoo bioeng ftw!) i absolutely love chem, calc, physics, and bio. hence, the major. i also applied to penn because my mom went there when i was around 5 for her veterinary degree. i loved playing on the button and eating cinnabon back then, and i sure as hell still do!

academically im average GPA wise, my SAT's are ok. i have toughest courseload. OH, my passions! i LOVE playing the saxophone and snowboarding, although snowboarding beats out saxophone. i also enjoy playing online games, going over friends house and beating their ass at video games, movies, and other typical kid stuff i guess...

my opinion of my chances at penn? absolutely no clue. some days i feel so upbeat and sure that i will get in, other days i only worry about rejections and begin deferred. i hope i get in!^^

CC all the way! you guys have been a huge help, and im thankful for it.

Hey guys, I'm venusajar. I live about 45 minutes away from Philly in the burbs. I'm lucky that I live so close, but competition is definitely harsh here since pretty much everyone wants to go to Penn.
I'm an assertive, outgoing Chinese female. I've never been shy in my life and always initiate conversations. I know exactly what I want and I'm not afraid to start things. I've always had an entrepreneurial urge and I've started a chapter of a debate organization at school, plus lots of other leadership in music, theatre, literature, and business. In total, I'm president of two clubs, editor in chief of a lit mag, and concert mistress of an orchestra. But don't worry, I'm not one of those robot people who get straight A's. My scores are normalish (2220).. but I definitely get intimidated by those superapplicants that I know of who go to rich private schools around here. ugh. believe me.. I'm NOTHING in comparison to them. Living in Philly is TOUGH.

I applied to Wharton because I absolutely love Penn and Wharton just gives me so many career opportunities that I know I'll take advantage of. I'm fortunate to have a lot of friends at Penn and Wharton, and everyone loves it. Hopefully, I'll be able to have a concentration in Management and Entrepreneurship. ahh crosses fingers! Plus.. philly is AMAZING - definitely an awesome place to live. If we all get in and end up meeting each other, I'll take you home for some awesome homemade chinese food.. and we can tell my parents how we "met" on CC before Penn. haha

Oh, and I'm horribly addicted to CC... I check it all the time. waaahh.

Hey guys, lets promise each other that when we find out our decisions, let's share them. Even if they're bad =(
I know I will.

is anyone applying to CAS here??

I'm elessar14LOTR, and my real name is Ilana. I live about 25 minutes from Boston (jennyanne89, yay MA!) in a small suburb. There's not much to do here, but I can't complain because before I lived here I lived in a rural middle of nowhere town in CT. I love Penn, and to answer 4815162342's question, I am applying to CAS for international relations. I am not sure what I want to do for a career, but that major really seems to cover my biggest academic interests. My dad went to Penn and so did two cousins of mine (one is still there actually), so I first became interested in Penn when I was pretty young, from hearing them talk about it and reminisce about how wonderful it is. I've visited a few times and I think the campus is gorgeous. Everything about Penn just seems so perfect for me, which is why I decided to apply ED.

I am definitely a humanities/social sciences person. I am a big language nerd, though right now I am only fluent in English. I'm working on some others. I am worried that MATH is going to keep me out of Penn. I detest math mostly because it is my weakness and I am not interested in that, and it is obvious in my SAT's and transcript that it is my weakness. I hope it doesn't keep me out. I really want to get in...actually...I hope we all get in because this seems like a really spectacular group of people.

One of my greatest passions is gymnastics but I am not looking to be recruited partially becuase I am not good enough for division 1, but also because I have heard that division 1 rules your life, and I want to do more in college than just gymnastics. I also dive, work with my school paper, and am involved with the Girl Scouts. Yes, Girl Scouts is very cool and you know it. I like most kinds of music, and I play the clarinet and some guitar for fun. I don't watch a lot of TV during the school year, but I really like LOST (and yes I recognized the meaning of 4815162342, and no I did not have to scroll down just now to type that), House, Friends, BtVS, Angel, and Firefly (whedonverse geek!). I also love to read, and am a huge LOTR fan (if you couldn't guess from my screen name hehe) and Harry Potter fan.

I am also a very skilled procrastinator. I should be doing lots of homework right now, but I'm on CC!

Hey I'm a chinese female from the suburbs of Missouri. I applied to the Penn Joint Degree program in life science and management. I hope that this degree would help me get involved in pharmaceuticals etc. Actually, my dream would be to have my own cosmetic company, as cheesy as that sounds. I'm from a public school of about 2000 kids total. I've done really well in school except my standarized testing sucks. I'm really a math and science person, i know it's stereotypical, but it's natural to go with whatever subjects you're good at.

My main reason for Penn(and wharton) is that i wanted a change of culture(urban) from the midwest and I think that Penn would be one of the top schools in job recruitment and career opportunity(which i personally think is the #1 factor in choosing schools). I think i have a decent chance. but we'll see. If i don't get in, I'll probably go to WashU, although I just feel that WashU is too much of the same environment that I've been living all my life...

I think I'm pretty shy, but I think college will change that. However, i've heard that Penn doesnt really help you meet people. i'm actually very intimidatd by the Wharton crazy curving but whatever, i guess i'll just have to deal with it. lol.

Yeah, I'll share my decision, even if it's bad...haha.
For fun, I love badmiton and volleyball. Pottery and oil painting too.

Waves I'm Lindsay =) I'm living in New Jersey right now, in a suburb similar to the OP's. This isn't home to me though. I was born in Michigan, and I've lived in Italy, a few places in Germany, back to Michigan, etcetc. (No, I'm not a freaking army brat. Psh.)

The study of Germanic Languages is my obsession, which is why I'm applying to Penn. They offer an amazing amount of classes in Germanic Languages and culture (Dutch, Swedish...deutschgasm), and better yet their graduates with Germanic Languages degrees don't have to go into teaching, hah. Basically I like the career opportunities they offer and the whole liberal-arts thing...I don't want to be tied down to taking only classes that relate to my major.

I am multi-racial; caucasian and cherokee. I don't really identify with my roots though, sometimes I wish I did a little more.

My second-choice University was the University of Michigan, and I got in a couple of weeks ago with a $60,000 scholarship. I don't know if I deserved it, but I'm happy. It's nice to have something as a backup since I'm preparing myself for rejection on the 14th. It's kind of up-in-the-air as to whether I get in, I guess. My verbal scores are incredible, and I have the essays to back them up. My math scores, however, are sub-par. Being a URM probably also helps me, but then again while my GPA is high, it's not as ridiculous as some I see posted around here.

Besides German, I like music and bio. Flute, Piccolo, and singing will probably just stay hobbies in college, but I want to continue bio, maybe even minor in it.

Oh, and I took a MAJOR risk on one of my essays. Whether I'm accepted, rejected, or deferred, I'll definitely post about it when I get a decision.

dc4lins, we are definitely LJ friends. (I'm thewestroad!)

wow! it's a small world....or...CC is a small place filled with people who are similarly obsessive :-P

LOL, hey, thewestroad! This came a few minutes after a kid on the Michigan boards identified himself as a kid I went to school with my freshman year...eek. Haha, so amused with the internet, CC especially =).

wow dc4lins, I wish I were part cherokee! I'm sure you'll get into Penn with that, plus your amazing achievements <3
