Who are the moderators?

Who are these moderators? Are they people that were members or do they work for the company?

I'm confused by that as well.

Anyone know (ie. A MODERATOR!)?

Alexandre was a regular CC poster before he got promoted to Moderator. Roger_Dooley and SheepRun have been Moderators since the old board, so I don't know about their background.

how do u get promoted?..do u get paid?..and are they on 24/7..well are some of them because they catch ppl w/i minutes..

do u know any adcoms who use this site?

o wow..i hope not..

they probably do. i mean, i hope not also. i always had a suspicion .. there are some users who seem to know too much. i mean, in all the threads , they write all this crap. and i have noticed they are very formal also... (they dont use any chatting expressions)

Dove of Peace is also a moderator. :). Same with JEM, and concerneddad.

AFAIK,

Administrator Roger_Dooley
Super Moderators sheeprun, Trinity, Obiwan, JEM, Dove of Peace
Moderators Alexandre, concerneddad, CollegeMom

I noticed someone from Grinnell on the old board, and there's someone pretty authoritative on the Caltech board, dunno if he's an adcom tho

how could you forget byerly

he's an alum. unless his spreading propaganda automatically affiliates him with the adcom.

well in one of his comments..he said well my interviewees..blah blah so i guess hes an interviewer for harvard..

any others.......northstarmom's? all those mom people... are they anything close to being adcoms? or just alum

hehe... "all those mom people"!

they're all alums, unless they're hiding something which i doubt

I am just an alum interviewer. Some other parents also have said they are alum interviewers.

Because this is a public message board, though, I assume that adcoms, financial aid officers, guidance counselors, etc. do visit these boards. It would be naive to assume otherwise. I have spotted posts by some students whom I know. I even saw someone posting here whom I didn't know, but did eventually get to interview for my alma mater.

Many posters put enough info on these boards about themselves that they are readily identified. Just because a college gets 20,000 applicants doesn't mean that an adcom wouldn't recognize you if you put enough info about yourself on these boards. It is absolutely amazing the coincidences that can happen.

People who are wise do not put anything on on-line boards including allegedly anonymous blogs that they would not want their worst enemies reading.

When it comes to coincidences, I reunited my S with a poster here whom he had attended summer camp with a few years ago. S also ended up going to a summer program with a poster whom I had met here. The world is very small.

o wow..do u think posting here would affect our chances at a school?

Sure, posting here could affect one's chances if one did something like:
1. Announced on the board that one cheats in school or does or has done other ethical violations. Some students think "everyone cheats." Adcoms and alumni interviewers, however, aren't looking to accept cheaters.

Announced on the board that one has a binding ED acceptance, but is planning on backing out for bogus reasons.

Announces on the board that one lied on one's application

Displays obnoxious personality traits such as flaming, belittling others, seeming sexist or racist, describing oneself in egotistical ways such as saying that a school where one is applying would be lucky to have one.

Saying things indicating that one has a drinking or drug problem or has a major mental health problem or that maximizing opportunities to get laid, booze or to get drugs are part of the factors that one is using in selecting colleges.

Most people don't do the above things, so even if adcoms or interviewers spot such students' posts, the students' chances of admission would not be affected.

but thats not really fair.... is it? i am sure i have posted some "immature comments", but its not fair to judge my character just through one post. anyways, do you think adcoms would actually research who the poster is, if they know the poster is applying to this college
