Who are the RD Applicants?.. only 2 weeks!!

My DS is anxiously waiting... anyone else? Got a call from FA office yesterday wanting to clarify a few things.. other than that.. nothing!!

Good luck, 5boys S!

Thanks Snowflake:-))))

I just got my acceptance package from St. Lawrence.
I live in a town 1hr driving from St Lawrence anyway. And it is postmarked on March 16th. So keep on patience

Congrat’s click!!! We are anxiously waiting here in CA… hopefully Monday or Tuesday…I did see on their blog that they were mailing out decisions Friday.

My S got the BIG envelope today with a Leadership and Presidential Scholarship. YAY!!

Wow, 5boys! I am not surprised though. Huge congratulations to your son. Maybe we’ll meet you in person later this summer at the big drop off?

Thanks snowflake!! I will keep you posted and will pm you if I have SLU questions. What is your S majoring in? Is he going to the admitted students day? I am going to see if my S can spend the night because that is more telling of the whole vibe and people. Maybe we can meet there… I have to book flights though… still waiting on a few more schools to make a decision. Is your S interested in the outdoor club/program?

Yes, he is going to the admitted students day (but I have to check when that is!). He is interested mostly in Environmental Studies and he also wants to travel abroad to Africa somewhere along the way. Yes, my son is definitely interested in the outdoor club.

They should be fast friends then… my S is also majoring in Environmental Studies… he will be pre-med too. Is your S an athlete? My S is not but wants to play Ultimate… I heard they have a pretty good team. What did your S like best about SLU? Sorry to be such a pest but we are so far away and don’t know that much about the school other than it’s great reputation.

Hi 5boys, My son is a casual athlete (cross country, nordic skiing, lacrosse, downhill, etc.). He was curious about crew at SLU, as his HS friend is doing crew at Ithaca and said it’s a great workout and fun. My son in not interested in pre-med, but does want to go to grad school. My H and S took a road trip and had a great visit; My son did not love SLU until he visited in January. My S also had lunch with one of his old cross country buddies (who is running at SLU) and his friend confirmed for him that all the teachers at SLU are like his favorite teacher/coach at our high school – a very high compliment. He also told me later, in confidence, that the girls at SLU were pretty good looking, and this is a guy that doesn’t talk to me about girls! My H told me later that the tour guide and one of the interviewer alums were very good looking. I suspect the girls there are attractive and fit, without being over-the-top, similar to his prom/winter ball dates have been. The girls from our high school that have gone there in the past have been similar … smart, athletic, good looking. The guys that have gone there from our high school are generally high achievers in whatever they chose to pursue, they are generally very fit and interested in a broad array of topics, so SLU is a better fit for these young men than an engineering school or other science-only focused school.

SLU has a great reputation at our HS. My neighbor’s son (graduated 2-3 years ago from SLU) is in the process of applying to med school and has great stats. Other graduates had the choice to go to Dartmouth/Cornell/UPenn but took the merit aid from SLU and never regretted it. For some reason, several kids from our HS over the years have applied ED to SLU, which my S did after his January visit. I think when you see the right school after already seeing others, it just hits you in the face.

Your S should be very proud of the merit awards he received … my S did okay, but your S did amazing. SLU must want him badly!

Thanks so much snowflake… that was my perception of SLU, that they had a lot of high achievers because of their fantastic merit aid. I think one of the reasons my S got such great merit aid is because #1 we are from the west, and #2 SLU really wanted a kid from our HS… no one has ever applied before and the ad com was so excited to have an applicant… and he really clicked with my S at when he came to our HS for an info session. My S has okay grades and excellent test scores, but I wouldn’t describe him as a high achiever… more the well rounded type. He does like to be an intellectual academic environment and wouldn’t like it if kids weren’t engaged.

My S will like what you said about the girls:-)) Those are the types of girls m S is attracted to too… athletic and smart. My only concern is that it may be more of a jock school than my S would like… remember his #1 was Colorado College… the hippie school of the west. I know he will find his peeps in the outdoor club though, so maybe I am over thinking it. The campus looks beautiful from what I have seen on the web. My S also really likes the idea of being so close to Canada. If my S does decide to attend he is going to take a gap year… so won’t start till 2013… so sad I won’t get to meet you at drop off… my H and I haven’t decided who is going to take him on the visit. My S also got into Hobart… so do you know anything about comparisons, I think they have a lot of cross admits…

I am over the moon that my S would be able to attend either of these schools, only having to pay a little under $10,000 a year for everything.

Hello everybody,
It seems like people have gotten decision packages in the US already!
I am wondering if any international students got any news? Will there be any email notification at all?

bluelovexD, I’m wondering the same :)

My S claims Hobart is much more preppy and jock-ie, but I don’t have experience myself. Don’t get me wrong about the athleticism of SLU kids … my son is definitely NOT a jock, but he does like to do things physically … he just doesn’t care if he wins as long as he’s enjoying himself. The girl from our HS that was admitted is not a jock either … a lovely girl and she likes to travel, but she likes to go on a hike, not run a 5K. That’s what I mean by fit, although there are certainly many fit kids that are competing at Div. III sports, but def. not my son.

Good luck as he decides … so nice to have a few great merit packages as he sorts things out.

My son almost took a gap year, but then he really got into the college search and became a changed person … I still don’t recognize him from a year ago when he was going to take a year off to volunteer in Africa. Now he just wants to do a travel abroad in Africa.

My son was admitted ED and he would love to attend one of the admitted student days. He has already made the commitment to attend SLU and he is very excited! He would love to have an opportunity to spend some time with his prospective classmates and get even more of a feel for SLU. We’re not sure if the ED kids are included, however. He hasn’t received any e-mails. Does anyone know?

Hi Nursekay, my son, also ED, is planning on going there April 6. You should just contact admissions and let them know to expect him! My son is traveling there with 2-3 other kids from VT that were also accepted ED, so I am not invited this time.

My S is going on the 13th and 14th… flying in from CA… my H is going with him… :frowning: I wish I could.
