yeah, but thats somewhat misleading because slightly more kids applied to tons more top universities. plus, people treat cornell like a safety. most people would accept brown, columbia, penn, or dartmouth before it.

well i dunno how accurate this measure is, but the "cornell 2011" facebook group only has ~1,300 members which is really low compared the aimed class of 3,050. but then again, not everyone has facebook or joined the group. but that is still less than 50% of the expected class size...

Our S has a GT 1-year offer, but I'm very interested in how the waitlist goes this year at Cornell with so many more applications. I think these crazy numbers might make the waitlist a real wild card, and the yield could be all over the place at many schools. I hope some of you will post when/if you get in for Fall, 2007, as well as your decisions about whether or not you choose to go if admitted off the waitlist. Good luck!

preppypennie - that's interesing with facebook. I wonder how well facebook could predict each school's yield rate. Numbers may go up after this weekend after everyone has made their decisions (well, kind of).

ive been lookin at the facebook group too, and even a school like harvard that youd expect to have a 90% yield rate only has about 50% of its entering class in the facebook group

Just an FYI for you guys, I got accept off the waitlist on April 28th (last year). Here's the thread I made last year.

this is my favorite thread!

wow tun that's sounds really odd how they accepted you so early. especially given that you didn't submit any additional information and they had an extremely high yield last year (only 18 kids got off the waitlist) i hope everyone that is waitlisted on cc posts when/if they get off! :-)

doesnt ilr have rolling admissions? that would make a lot more sense that you got off before may 1st

ILR admissions were not rolling last year.

i just sent in my withdrawal card! hope one of you gets my spot! :)

thanks cali! i feel so weird putting my desposit down on another school even though i know i proabably wont be going to cornell.
i really hope cornell's yeild prediction is off.
does anyone know if they take the most qualified kids or by major, diversity, etc?

tun, did you ever find out why/how you got off the waitlist so early? ...knowing that you got off it before may last year makes me SUPER nervous!

i think they take people off the waitlist based on cornell's "needs." so if they don't have enough girls in the class, they will take girls off the waitlist. or if they need kids from the west coast, they will pick them over east coasters. but it's done by college that you applied to. so if one college had a really low yield they will take more people of the waitlist than another college that had a really high yield. also, (i hope!!) writing a letter or sending additional information will maybe give you a better chance of getting off the waitlist.

Ok...guys...to get off the waitlist and get a GT, u need to send them something special...not just a long list of stuff u've done or updated transcript...I can't reveal what I did cause I don't know if cornell staff looks at this board :-) But good luck to you all!

maryjulia can you send me a private message and tell me what por favor?

just a word to the wise, cornellstudent09 claims that arts and sciences WILL be going to the waitlist this year. however, he/she didnt clarify how many students will be accepted from it yet.

i kno 2 ppl who have rejected their acceptance at Cornell...

even if get off the waitlist, ill prolly have mixed feelings. im gonna be visitin my parents in the summer and winter, and from syracuse, itll take at least a 16 hour flight...not something i look forward to

this is what i heard today: cornell granted "many" people extended time to make their decision. so they will knew of the wait list in "few" days.....the information came from a reliable source close with admissions

preppypennie: I have no idea. If there's anything I can think of, it's that I was a pretty good target student for ILR last year, and I'm an asian male. I think ILR is the only college in Cornell where there are more blacks and hispanics than asians. I don't have any kind of numbers to support this but that's just the sense I get when I look at my peers in ILR.
