I’m planning on applying to transfer to USC, and one of the requirements for my major is two letters of recommendation. The checklist says to “ask your college course instructor, academic advisor, employer, or internship supervisor to submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf.” This is my first semester of my second year of college. More than half of my community college experience was online and I have not formed well enough relationships with professors to confidently ask for a letter of recommendation. I’ve had meetings with my counselor, but only to discuss class schedules and a transfer plan. I’m pretty sure I can’t ask high school teachers, because if we could, I have one in mind. I could ask my employer but I think my department supervisor would be a better choice because they know how I work better than my employer does, would they still be a valid person to ask? Would it be weird to ask a professor from last year for a recommendation letter even though you haven’t spoken to them since the last day of class?
