Who here that had to submit that financial aid verification information (the letter that you got in the mail that required you to submit tax documents to verify everything and what not) can view their financial aid info online right now? When did you mail the letter back?

i turned mine in before the deadline. i haven't been able to view my award summary

me neither.

same here but Ive talked to quite a few other ppl who all turned their stuff in already and still cannot view it. I bet the FA office just hasn't had time to process and evaluate our packages yet...more waiting i suppose?

Wangdirty30 - When was the deadline?

I can view mine... but only from 7am to 7pm. >_< The first time I logged in, it was 7:05pm so I just missed it.

cjue - Did you have to verify your financial aid info (did you get that letter in the mail asking for tax papers and what not?)? If so, when did you send it back to them?

I still can't see my financial aid information, and I'm getting concerned because I really want to know my aid before I start visiting the UC's (visiting UCLA on Tuesday and UCSD the following Saturday). How long does it usually take for them to process everything (mine still just says that they're missing papers and that it's incomplete)?

I can view my financial aid info... but they didn't ask m to verify anything. All they sent me was my financial aid summary and intructions how to interpret my summary.

cjue - oh, well, this thread was meant for people who had to verify their information.

I got my financial package in the mail today. Why bother?@*zarrrgh!!!!

Mine still says that some other financial aid document is missing under "Missing Documents/Information." My status page says that my financial aid file is both incomplete and complete:

Here's my award summary page:

Is that all that I'm getting? $10k a year (EFC was 1068, so 10k a year seems meager)? Why isn't my Cal Grant accepted?

I mailed it back a few weeks ago but there was something wrong so I mailed it back again two days ago; havent been able to view my aid yet

Can anyone answer my questions in my last post?

azure: I would call the financial aid office for an explanation but, I think you need to go into your Cars and accept the rest of your loans and your Cal Grant.
It looks like Cal is meeting all of your need with the Pell Grant, UC Grants, and Cal Grant. The rest are in Loans which total $5500 for the school year plus a work study...
The family contribution is being offered in the form of a Parent Plus loan. You can accept it or not. It's something your parents have to apply for (I think.)

Can anyone explain to me the differences of all the loans listed there? Is this what they are:

Federal Direct Loan (Subsidized)
Federal Parent Loan Plus1
Federal Perkins Loan

That's THREE different types of loans I'm getting, right? What are the differences between the three?

Double check the following with your school before acceptin/declining anything. My understanding of the loans is:

Federal Perkins Loan - This is a student loan and will be in your name. It is subsidised so the government pays the interest on the loan while you are still in school plus a 6 month grace period. Then you start paying the interest and repaying the loan. Interest rate is 5%. (best of the loans)

Federal Direct Loan (Subsidized) - This is a student loan and will be in your name. I am guessing this is like a Stafford loan (if i am wrong someone please correct me). If it is the current interest rate is 6.8%. As it is subsidised the government pays the interest on the loan while you are still in school plus a 6 month grace period. Then you start paying the interest and repaying the loan.

Federal Parent Loan Plus1 - Loan is in parents name. Parents have to apply and be approved. Interest and repayment start immediately.

As a previous poster said you have to go in and accept and decline the offers. If it is like my Ds school certain grants are accepted by the school and others you have to accept.

So, I do not have to start paying for the loans until after college (but my parents start paying immediately)?

[Unfortunately I cannot accept or decline any of the offers because apparently they've been missing my mother's SSN this whole time...blah]

Yes that about sums it up. Here are some links to finaid.com which has good information about the loans. Also your school should have some information on the financial aid dept. pages about the various loans.

So... I accepted part of the PLUS Loan (with my parent's consent, obviously...) about a week ago. When will we begin the approval process? Are they strict when evaluating your parent's credit? Anyone have an idea of when you find out if your application was accepted?

very, very good point swimcatsmom makes... hopefully anyone accepting financial aid loans is getting all of the information before doing so. i don't have any aid so i am not familar firs hand with loans but i did ask before my reply yesterday and was told that you will get specific information on the loans before they are funded to your cars account in august. you also are required to complete a loan counseling program (on-line program) before being able to get funding on your loans.
it's best to contact financial aid at cal... they are not difficult to reach by phone and have all the answers you need on wha to do.
good luck.
