Were you offered a better aid package elsewhere, or just why did you choose not to attend?

Couldn't afford it.

i liked duke more

Has everyone else mailed in their acceptance material?

My daughter's friend is going to either UCLA Honors College or Berkeley (I'm not sure which he finally chose) over Dartmouth. MUCH cheaper (instate tuition), more diversity, more girls, greater variety of majors/courses/activites, more fun in the surrounding town, equal (in his mind) prestige.

I chose Cal over Dartmouth. I save a crapload of money and it's in a way better location. Plus, I like Cal much much better in pretty much every way.

caltech? If so, that's cool. Have fun with your wonderfully obnoxious pranks!

One time, I heard the caltech ppl replaced the hollywood insignia with caltech.

The other time, they went to MIT and wrote "MIT...the OTHER institute of technology."

Those guys are certified thugs (in a good way lol)

did you really mean caltech, paigemont? i didn't know pasadena was such a hip place...

I think Cal probably means Berkeley. In the sports world it would, anyway.

chose yale

my friend from PR's going to yale, too! but she didn't apply to dartmouth (chose yale over harvard+stanford, tho)

A girl at my school is declining to go to Columbia - she likes the core.

boo columbia...no college experience at all, core is overrated.

hey, that's samantha, right? (who's going to columbia) she's a cool wasian =)

choosing columbia...but it may be too expensive, so I may have to go to McGill (hopefully finaid and scholarships come through). Dartmouth was too isolated, and I'll have to travel a lot to visit family.I also asked others who had gone there about their opinions...Good luck to any on the waitlist.
go lions!

That's what I thought, too, Slipper, but to each their own. I sure wouldn't want to be going to Columbia, though!!

(Oh, p.s., post 1300 on the Dartmouth board. Kind of an unlucky number, but maybe it has a lot of good karma left over since people don't call on it very much!)

Sorry to sidetrack, but I'm considering applying to Columbia this Fall. So I'm curious why you say there's no college experience at Columbia?

I live there now (go to grad school but I know a ton of undergrads), went there my first year, and I still keep in touch with Columbia friends from my first year. I have to say about 25% of the time I mention that I transferred out after my first year while I am at a bar the person I am talking will say "I wish I did that too" or "what's the process like".

Here's the 10 second lowdown. 1) The dining hall is only first years, which means you are lonely at dinner after year one 2) The "big events" are poorly attended 3) The library is absolutely silent unlike other schools 4) People all go away on the weekends into downtown, for example friday night is dead quiet 5) There are so many more grad students than undergrads so it feels like a city rather than a place where you really get to know many people

Its the type of place people sort of like, but don't love. I would say there are a few types who like it: 1) People who dont mind little cliques and 2) people who have a real reason to be in NYC - artists, etc.

For everyone else I think there are much more balanced options. The friendly camraderie and community of Dartmouth might not be everyone's cup of tea, but Columbia is the opposite.

I chose Georgetown over Dartmouth... mainly because I didn't get in! :p

he lives! (characters)
