So... i just found out i did not pass my entry level writing requirement and i'm wondering, is it common for freshmen to take remedial english classes their freshman year? Also, it is possible to take the remedial english class in the fall right?.... Thanks

I didn’t pass. My grammar is horrible thx to spell check. I might go to UCR summer school according to the paper in the back. I wish they would have told me this earlier to register at a local ccc to make it up

ohh, but are u considering taking the remedial course by any chance? or are u 99% likely to take summer courses?

i didn’t pass, and i really don’t wanna take summer school. lol.

I’ll go to summer school if I get fin aid. I dont want to take a remedial class

lol. I was scared I had to go to remedial class. I wrote like nine paragraphs. -_-

how did you guys find out if you passed or not? i havent gotten any mail

you can go to “myucr” then go to your “my test scores” tab and scroll down to the bottom where it talks about the writing test and it will either say you passed or didn’t and it will tell you what english you’ve been placed into

My UCR say that I ll have to wait till july too see where I was placed

i got my results in the mail. it still says i have to wait on my “myUCR”

I passed! I got placed in English 001A which is Beginning Composition.

I didn’t passed =[
Found out last wednesday…
If only I got the test result early then I would make it for the ENG 1A at RCC…

I guess my only option to skip remedial english is to take summer class at UCR WITHOUT financial aid…

By the way, is it possible to take both courses for math and english in 1 summer section?
Because I don’t want to take pre-calc (math5) again…

Wow I didn’t know some people took this test seriously. nine paragraphs? I thought it was just something we had to do… I finished like 70 minutes early. Luckily I passed xD

LOL. What! ): I don’t even know how the words came to me. I just kept writing and writing. xD

If I dont take the class in summer school, can I still graduate in 4 years?

I got my test result in mail 4 days before the first section of summer schools start.
How awesome is that?

I would rather take test that is similar to SAT writing section as placement exam. What if your head go blank on that day or you unluckily got a bad essay prompt?

Anyway, they placed me into “BSWT 003 and (003D or 003L)”
Anyone knows how low that class is from English 1A ??

Edit: I’m asking myself the same question too, xdarkdragonx01.

After you take BSWT003, I think you move onto ENGL004, then you start taking ENGL001A/B/C.

I just finished my first year at UCR. I remember not passing that Entry Level Writing Exam too, ergh. But don’t fret, because you won’t be too far behind. Some English Classes, such as Engl1B or 1C, weren’t offered in the Fall Quarter anyway, so people had to wait a quarter until they could enroll into an English Class.

If you happened to pass your AP Literature/ Language though, then it overrides you not passing the Entry Level test That’s what happened to me. The AP bumped me into Engl1B.

I think the ELWR is kind of bs. I mean, if we took AP/IB classes, we should all be scholarly writers, right?

I wish i t would be a combination of a mc test and written. If its a pure written test people with college level reading end up in bswt learning english
