I just got back from orientation and guess what... I got my report card and I have a D in Calculus and a C in AP Physics. I know for sure, my grade in Physics was a mistake because 3rd quarter I had an A, and 4th quarter we did nothing but free time. I can't get a C for free time right? Anyways the D in Calculus, might be because I killed my finals. I had a secure C before the final, but I guess the final dropped me that low. But here is the thing. My C in Calculus is not because I didn't know Calculus, but it was because my teacher was picky, taught w/ favoritism, and our test wasn't graded based on our answers, but our work. If you skip one line of work, you lose points for that question. It's really ridiculous. Say a problem was worth 8 points. The answer will be at most 2 points, the rest is all work. And if she doesn't know you or doesn't like you, its a all of nothing deal on work. My math class was really Hell. I got a 740 on my SAT II Math2C too. I hope UCSD will still keep me.. I'm pretty stressed out. I need to make a phone call to them about the grade mistake and this D i just got. If anyone knows which office to call (i'm guessing administration, but just to be sure...) please let me know. It'll be a great help.

**** son a D in calculus what is it AB or BC well heres a good excuse tell them ur score on the AP exam when you get it back(hopefully its good) which will reinforce your knowledge in calculus yo!

Darn... this was a calc honors class so I didn't take the AP test. My school does not have a Calc AB class, instead we just have BC.

you can also ask them if you can retake the class in summer school also what is ur major that can play a huge roll...

yeah. my physics teacher just told me he made a grade mistake. so the C should be an A now. but i still have that ugly D... I should contact the administrations office right?

the thing about math is... it wasn't hard at all, but just my teacher's picky grading system and with her having favorites, it was hard to get her attention etc. i'm not sure how I am going to explain all this to UCSD.

Do you really think UCSD cares why you have a D? You don't even have a good excuse. It's not like you were in the hospital for two months or something. Grading by your work is a valid way to grade. People can just cheat otherwise. Teachers may have favorites, but if you suck in the class, you're not going to get a good grade. It's your own fault for not doing well. If you know you're graded upon showing all your work, SHOW ALL YOUR WORK. DERRRRR

It's not any type of work, you gotta do it my teachers way. Math can be done in more than one way and you can still get the same answer. In my math class, it was always done her way. I'm sure UCSD will give me a chance. I could probably take a summer course. you don't have to be so rough hoboknifefight.

UCSD doesn't care; every student is just a number to them. There had to be some indication that you were doing bad in the class before grades were turned in. You SHOULD have talked to your counselor before that, but there are many What If's in this world.

yeah thats true... gosh now i'm really stressed haha.. I'll call them up tomorrow, see what will happen.

Well I have some friends in similar situations at UCSD and other UC's as well. I'm technically in school, so I'll see what the counselor says about this whole situation, and if I find anything I'll keep you posted. So far today, I saw people scrambling to write letters. The real key was that you were supposed to notify them before the final transcript was sent to them (from what I hear at least...).

yeah. thanks a lot man. I am going to my high school today to verify the grade change (physics grade was a mistake) and talk to my counselor. really worried about this situation. anyways, I'll keep checking. Thanks again.

Sorry no luck today. It was all graduation rehearsals and stuff, so my friends were like "whatever".

hobo u have been so mean in many other posts, calm down lol

hehe... its no problem. I disappointed him and the rest of you guys man. You guys been always helping me and damn I had to be lazy and get a D in my Calc class... I talked to my counselor, she told me she'd call my math teacher to verify the grade. If it is not a mistake, then I'll call UCSD before final transcripts are sent. Wish me luck you guys. If you guys find out something about this, please let me know. Thanks always.

simsangwon88, im in the same exact situation as u... right when i came back from orientation i got my report card and it said D+ for ap calculus... i REALLY hope i can still get into ucsd... im really worried... did u find anything else out?? or does anyone else know what my chances of getting in are?? let me know asap... thanks..

damn sim. I got a D+ in ap comp sci too. Tell me whats up with ur situation. I wrote a letter to sd. What did the person say when you called? I hope we don't get rescinded :(

yeah... I heard that if you have already completed the a-g requirements, you should be fine. don't get too stressed. I will be calling ucsd on monday about the issue. I'll update you guys asap. Gosh I wish teachers were a little more sympathetic towrad us. It's our senior year, and they know we're heading to college and a D will screw us real bad... i hope everything goes well though! don't lose hope!

OH MY GOSH!! REALLY?? if you already completed the a-g requirements?? wowww that makes me feel soooooo much better... i hope its true tho.. im reallyyyy scared...

ucsd girl, if ur a junior, it doesn't matter. I believe one D is replaceable
