Who do I contact for HELP?

Please somebody give me sum advice!!! I have had nothing but problems with financial aid at college I was attending. July 22, 2016 I did exit counseling Aug. 29 the next semester started. It now has been 30 days after last semester ended and new one began. I have repeatedly called and emailed asking wen my funds would be released so my account would clear from amount due in order to get my transcripts for the new college. I was told 45 days?? My account clearly shows 4,407 in financial aid for Sept. with 2546 being balance in account as of now, but they wont release it to me!! I really need some help on how to deal with these people! I went 9 months without a refund at all, to somehow owing 1861? What do I do??? :frowning:

You need to work you way up the food chain. Ask to speak with the head of Fin Aid, not just whoever has picked up the telephone.

I did ask for head of fin aid after person who answered was not helping me. I was put on hold for almost 30 minutes to be told there was no one available to speak to me…

every time I call it seems like they add on more time as to when I will see any money or notice… they say now 45 days that I wont see any thing until maybe Nov… :(( :((

I’m confused. Are you planning to transfer? Is that why you need your transcripts now?

When is the drop/add final day at your school? Some colleges don’t do rounds until they know for sure that students are fully enrolled…haven’t dropped classes…which would, also put them at less than full time status. This would affect the amount of aid you receive.

Colleges want to be sure that they don’t give you money for, which you are not entitled.

Yes I have already left- I’m not sure what the drop/add final day is? When you say rounds do you mean when they disburse amounts? That’s the Second Week of each semester, semester are 8 weeks. 16 weeks is one session.

How common or uncommon is it to attend a college for 9 months and not receive any thing for a refund?? Or even how common is it for college to take out a loan for $11.00 or even $ 84.00 - so I’m unable to even cover tuition costs for that semester?? Or even more any refund amount I have been given is added back into my charges for session, added to the amount owed!

If you are no longer a student at college one, why would you be expecting money from them?

Is this an overage from last year?

I just transferred 30 days ago. Only half of my total loans was dispursed for July, August, September. They are holding the other half, I did not take any courses for September- my account still has balance that’s supposed to be paid from the other half of loans. What’s left after doing that gets refunded to me. But they haven’t done this.

Are you certain that you should receive those funds from College A? If you aren’t using them there, it is possible that they may be required to return the loans to the lender.

Account Description Statement Date Statement Amount Current Balance

 9/7/16 -$2,521.39 -$2,521.39

I understand what your saying - It has already been given for the session. And amount has been adjusted for September.

Are you expecting a round of aid disbursed from College number one…when you are no longer a student there?

Please clarify.

I am not understanding the situation. Did you enroll in the semester and then withdraw before the semester ended? Is it actually a semester school, or are you at a clock-hour school? How long is your program of study? Please provide a bit more info, because there are many possibilities - we need to narrow it down.

Also, you talk about last summer and this fall. It sounds like for this fall, you are already enrolled in a new college. So the first one wouldn’t owe you any financial aid for this term…at all.

Also, if summer is considered part of the 2016-2017 school year, that would be part of your aid for school 2, not school 1.

Actually, the first school may very well owe some financial aid - any time a student is enrolled in a term for even a day, they “earn” a portion of their aid. More days, more aid. The school has to perform a Return of Title IV Funds calculation, which allows them to determine the portion of aid earned. The problem is, a student can only receive aid at one school in any given term. There is a way to coordinate loans between two schools, but the total cannot exceed the year-in-school maximum for the student … and then, of course, the student only gets one-half per semester. Pell cannot be received at more than one school in a semester, no matter what (first-paid school can keep the payment, although many schools will work together to help the student get Pell at the school where it will most benefit the student - but if that would leave the first school having to return money & try to recover it from the student, some schools will balk).

@kelsmom

This student says he had already left school one and is at school 2.

So that being the case…would school one still owe him anything. Perhaps, the OP can clarify…if he is collecting financial aid to attend school 2?

Yes- thank you, although all the ifs and not ifs that do with title I’ve funds is kinda confusing… I looked up 30 day withdrawal letter and the title iv procedure came up… Understand Alittle more now what’s going on… Although there are things that college should have or be doing so that I would or could be understanding it better… The college is following procedure of what should be done, they really haven’t followed the amount of days right but arguing that will help me none… So yea 30 days then I will receive a withdrawal letter in that letter should tell me I have a balance and whether or not I want funds to come to me or not. Then school should release funds as soon as possible but can then also take another 14 days before I will receive it…
The college I just started, doesn’t charge me first 3 weeks of courses. So that’s maybe how able to coordinate loans.
I can’t get my official transcript until the college I was attending balance is paid… Until I receive withdrawal letter releasing funds the balance won’t be paid… Stupid also the college knows with release the balance is gone, but still hold my transcripts hostage not allowing me to get them until paid…

Ok so then still the reason other than the college is just crappy why I got out was because of my financial account just not adding up right- they have charged me for any refunds that I have received, unexplained extra charges for books and supplies… Etc … In one session the amount for credits even changed when it never was supposed to… How do I prove or show that this has happened to me? Is it not normal to receive some kind of refund disbursement if not 2 each session? Why would I not have one in over 9 months of attending?

Is it a for-profit online college?
