I'm a college freshman considering exploring the options of transferring to a different school but I have no idea who to talk to about it. My academic advisor left the school in Jan. and I'm in limbo till they assign me a new one and my parents aren't helpful. Should I contact my (very good) high school counselor?

you could also contact an admissions counselor at wherever you want to transfer.

if you had a good relationship with your HS counselor, you could contact them, though they probably won't be as knowledgeable about the transfer process.

There should be someone at your school who is handling academic advising (or perhaps they don't care about students, which is one good reason to transfer :) ) just be aware that your school's advice is somewhat biased since they prefer that you don't leave.

Many schools will only let you transfer for the Fall Semester. You can apply to transfer anytime during the year, but the deadline (usually) is April 1 for the following Fall.

Why don't you go to the websites of schools that you are interested in, and look for information on transferring in. You fill find out the process, deadlines, paperwork and transcripts to submit etc.

let me clarify. It's not that I don't know how the transferring process works but I need advice on figuring out if it is really worth transferring. Like someone to help me figure out where I might be interested in transferring etc. I get the paper work and deadline stuff.

Basically, I'm disappointed with the schoo in general. The pluses are the opportunities for interning and the academics themselves (my school is one of the best for my major). Because of this, people keep telling me to stick it out for three more years but it's so painful to sit on campus with people I can't stand. I've thought about graduating early and credit wise I could graduate in one year early but I have to stay in my program until dec of my senior year.

So that's the type of advice I need in an adult somewhere, not the technicalities.

So, what is your major?
And you would complete 2 years at your present school, and then do 2 years at your new school?
