""the transfer students are probably not at the same intellect level"

wanna clarify this, bhaisaab?"

I would have to somewhat agree with bhaisaab. Though I have nothing but mad respect for the UCLA transfers (especially those on these boards...who tend to be smarter/brighter than normal transfers), I must admit that I have seen UCLA take some sorry-ass transfers. These are the type of students that give transfers a bad name as a whole.

well, i can agree that OVERALL transfer applicants have it easy and honestly, generally dont deserve as much respect as people who went in as freshmans. I SAID GENERALLY, bc there are always special cases but its true.

its not fair that someone can slack their entire life, work hard for 2 years, and land at the same spot academically, as somebody who has been working hard for 6 years at the least. haha lifes not fair and i can't wait to transfer = )

bhaisaab kyaal hai?

I unequivocally disagree with the contention that transfers "are not at the same intellect level" as freshmen. That's just unfounded.

HIGH SCHOOL SUCCESS DOES NOT EQUAL COLLEGE SUCCESS...

people are just bitter because UCLA from HS is near impossible...Im glad that I transferred....got into UCLA, something I would have NEVER dreamed of...and only spent around $2K so far compared to almost $40K for first two years in UCLA....

don't get my wrong guys, i was in no way disrespecting transfer students

but i am going to UCSD, i would have liked to go to UCLA or UCB, and my intention is to transfer to UCB as a junior, ofcourse that's not going to be easy.

i was just a little confused as to why UC campuses give preference to transfer students from community colleges than those from other UC campuses...

Citan, congratulations on ur UCLA admission

g1a2b3e, again don't get me wrong, i was just expressing my personal opinions, i could very well be wrong

Mas janaab main theek hun, shukriya

ilovecalifornia, yea life's not always fair, good luck on ur transfer effort

"i was just a little confused as to why UC campuses give preference to transfer students from community colleges than those from other UC campuses..."

It's quite simple. It goes along with the idea of public colleges (which is often lost on these forums and relating to the UCs today). These colleges belong to the citizens of California. And the citizens of California want as much opportunity as possible for Californian students to get excellent educations.

Further, perhaps better addressing your point, a student at a UC is already receiving a high quality UC education. Thus, the student at the CA community college (a school that cannot give out a BA) should have priority in reaching one of these schools that provides a high quality education. Intercampus transfers come next.

but a student at a UC tryign to transfer into another UC does not take a spot away from the UC system as a whole, he just transfers from one to another.

i dnt agree jc transfers arent as "intellectual"...those two years you have to be in jc to transfer arent cakewalks! there are requirements that must be upheld..theres nothing wrong with transfering from a jc...you save a lot of money and even though the college experience is lost you can still catch up when u transfer...btw some of those programs arent guaranteed..i know people who were in the program and still didnt get in the second time around...i guess if you get accepted you really deserve it and if you dont then it just means that theres a place better for you...

Sigh I'm sending in my appeal letter tomorrow. Not counting on the appeal, but still secretly hoping for the rejection reversal.

Good luck with that, kevintech. I'm sure you will get in.

Thanks Bryan, I appreciate it.

Take a few more classes as in i could buy more books? Yum...

"oh cool
so the students just need to have a GPA of above 3.0 n they are in? that's pretty easy.....doesn't it lower UCSD standards?"

Not really. The program is a contract that requires a harder curriculum than the IGETC. Here's the info... http://www.miracosta.edu/StudentServices/TransferCenter/Downloads/UCSD%20TAG%20Advising%202005-2006.pdf

Did anyone notice on the transfer site that the deadline to apply for parking is "July 28, 20065"?

Are the kids at UCLA, how do I put this, excessively "fratty"? Does it seem like everyone's wearing pastel polo's, khaki shorts, and those boating shoe loafer things that the frat kids always wear?

^^yes..everyone at ucla wears those boating shoe loafer things.
