I mean..when I took it, I had maybe looked at one or two review tests, but that was only to get the structure of the tests down. Anyone not really one to study for these kind of tests? Meaning, you don't buy the books, the classes, tutoring, or anything of that sort.

i took some kaplan classes but it didnt help me cuz i was already using the "techniques" they were teaching and i didnt study for my other sats, act, and sat iis eventhough i bought some books on them = me wasting $$ :(

fortune4260...you probably won't find many of those sorts of people on CC. Most people here study like crazy for the SAT/ACT because they're aiming for the most prestigious schools in the nation/world.

I'm not studying much, maybe I'll do a practice test every week or so, but no way am I going to review 1000 vocab cards. I really don't think everyone needs prep, I'm doing really well without it. I'd say buy a book because practice is what helps the most, and it will only set you back about $20. It gets me mad though because basically anyone can get a 1450 or whatever on the new one if they pay for classes and study all the time.

lol i guess im an exception.

anyways i was just curious, but what colleges are you applying to elbereth?

Actually, I'm referring to a lot of the OTHER people on this board who study feverishly for the SAT/ACT and whose goal is to attend HYPS or wherever. I'm not one of them (I only got a 1350) and I really screwed up academics-wise one year which definetely jeopardized my chances of getting into a very selective school. Actually, most of the schools I applied to, the majority of ppl. here on CC have not heard of, but here it goes: Penn State, Arcadia, Drexel, Bloomsburg, Kutztown,Albright, Rosemont, Muhlenberg, Gettysburg, Ursinus, Agnes Scott, West Chester, and UVM. My very huge reach school is Case Western, which I SERIOUSLY doubt getting into despite its high acceptance rate.

lol david218, anyone CAN get a 1450 on the new one. That is indeed correct, because the new one is out of 2400

DAMN...that is a LOT of colleges. lol. I've only applied to 4 haha.. i might apply to 1 more...wow your application fee total must have been kinda steep though :|

I didn't study for the SAT, and I did fine. Unless you're really unsure of yourself or could do a lot better, I really don't see the point in obsessive studying (that's saved for IB/AP exams). :)

I bought a book for the ACT for the second time I took the test and studied the Science Reasoning only (since it raped me the first time I took it). I bought books for the SAT IIs, but only really used Physics (but studying for those are more understandable). I did maybe 3 or 4 practice problems the night before I first took the SAT, and then I did maybe 20 or 30 the night before the second time. So not really MUCH studying, although there was some. But all in all my scores are MY abilities, not the effect of tutors and books and classes and memorization.

I didn't study at all for the ACT or SAT, and I got a 32 ACT (1420) and a 33 ACT (1460) using best subscores. Why would I want to waste my time practicing for a worthless test. Life is too short.

Exactly, its more worth while to study your school subjects. grades are much more important in the long run, for example to get into med school gpa is crucial.

I didn't study for the sat (other than taking a couple practice tests). got a 1540. I actually did buy the guides, but never looked at them. am incredibly motivated...

My S really hates standardized tests and would rather spend his time on his classes and extra reading. He will not prepare for SAT He did fine on the January test. Hope March goes as well!

I didn't study before taking the Jan 22nd because it didn't matter for me, that's prolly why I only got a 1210.

I'm Asian, and therefore have no choice in the matter. I've been studying for this test since the 8th grade. le twitch

The only thing I did was buy the Princeton Review book and do a few hours of practice from there.

I was very happy with the result and only took the ACT once (it was the ONLY test I took).

I just went to Barnes and Nobles to look at a book to get the basic format of the tests to see which ones I prefered. For these types of tests, you can't just learn these things, and if you learned alot of new stuff, you aren't ready for the test. They measure your skills at reading and thinking, rather than your ability. I think people who try to study the test are trying to hard...and really aren't focusing on what the test is meant to measure, your ability to function in college.

I didn't study for either the December SAT or the Feb 5( Jan make-up) test. I actually buy like 3 books but never do them. I only solved one practice test before I took the test for each test dates. As a result my scores were disappointing that I can't even tell my parents about them. The first one was 1410(V630,M780). They were really disappointed. The second one I checked today was 1450(V650,M800). I don't know why but I've grown kind of indifferent to the SAT. I know this is not a good score, especially the verbal section, but I can't help not studying. Do you have any advices on motivating myself?

Imiracle911, your scores are excellent. You shouldn't be too disappointed in those scores if you didn't study. Hey, maybe if you study for the next one, you'll be satisfied. I was ecstatic to bring my 1220 (570M, 650V) up to 1310 (600M, 710V). I brought it up 90 points by doing practice tests the week before the test.
