I know this is a UC thread...but I applied to SJSU and Sac State (SJSU was actually my 1st choice before UC Davis ever came into the picture)...and I found out that I got rejected from SJSU today. I'm not hurt, but it just makes me kinda worry about not getting into UCD...but my bf reassures me that it'll be different because the CSU system factors more your GPA and where you live, while UCs factor your GPA, ECs, essays, etc. so yeah...I really would like to go to UCD and I still have hope...but has anyone gone through this situation where they got rejected at a CSU and then accepted to a UC or better? And what CSUs has anyone else applied to if any?

I’ve had a few friends get rejected from SDSU and Cal Poly (mainly because they didn’t complete a few pre-reqs) but they got in to Irvine, UCSD, and Davis.
I’m guessing you don’t have a TAG, so if you have at least a 3.3 then I’d say you have an OKAY chance. A 3.5 will give you some more safety though.

As I understand it, the CSU’s are offering priority admission to those applicants who are in their designated ‘service area’ (by County). SJSU covers Bay Area counties and if you are an applicant outside that area, you might be wait listed or denied admission. Likewise, Sac State probably covers several central valley counties as a service area. The reason this is happening is there are far more applicants that there are spots for both incoming freshman and transfers–the CSU system implemented this method to help prioritize their student admittance. I don’t think UC admission uses this geographic measure for admittance so don’t worry about UCD and good luck!

I applied to CSUN. I live in the area so I really hope I’m not denied. I also applied to UCLA and UC Berkeley.

thanks guys.

MidnightGolfer, I actually have a 3.06. But I had an upward grade trend since the last semester, and I have good ECs and pretty decent essays. I kinda regret not doing TAG, and I didn’t because I didn’t believe I was Davis material but my bf kept pushing me to apply because he believed in me, lol.

JRNMom, yup, I’m guessing UCs don’t use geographic measure as a factor because some students are probably willing to go the distance for a certain school (like Cal or LA). I will find out about Sac State next week, and I feel that I have a good chance there but I’m still a little paranoid, lol

I applied to 3 CSUs. Got waitlisted by Sonoma State in January, got into Chico State two weeks ago, and got into Northridge last week. I wish I applied to more cause I really like reading “Congratulations! On behalf of (whatever school you applied to) it is a pleasure to inform you of your provisional admission for fall 2010.”

Good luck everybody

haha at least you guys are already receiving acceptances and everything. nothing yet for me. Hopefully on the 23rd we’ll hear back from Davis, hanucol! I can’t wait.

Did you tag hanucol?

iirc average gpa for UCI was 3.3 last year and what major?

peter86, no I didn’t TAG, and I am majoring in Design (Visual Communication concentration), which isn’t too competitive at UCD from from I’ve seen, but also a pretty good program…like, a hidden treasure or something. If I go to Sac State, I will major in graphic design, which is pretty competitive and you have to turn in a portfolio to get accepted into the program.

emilsinclair9, where else did you apply besides Cal and UCD?

I applied to CSUN, Fullerton and Long Beach and still haven’t heard from any (got the letter saying I am in the final round for LB though)

@ hanucol: I only applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, Davis, and UCSC. I applied to UCSC as like a super back-up in case something were to go horribly wrong.

I think applying to a CSU is a great idea…you know…if all else fails for some reason.

I applied to CSUN, Long Beach, and Sonoma. Sonoma wait listed me last month, CSUN requires my final transcripts before they make an admissions decision, and I am still waiting on Long Beach.

I applied Long Beach, SJSU, Fullerton and Cal Poly.
I got into Long Beach, SJSU
waiting for fullerton and cal poly.

itsyouitsme, what GPA did you have that you were able to get into SJSU?

Anyone else hear back from SF State? I applied to three Cal States as backups… only heard from SF.

I’m not sure if it’s this way for transfers or if this applies now, but my best friend and boyfriend applied to SF State their senior years (we all graduated in 07) and got accepted within a week or so. But then they got deferred because of grades…

yay, I just got accepted to Sac State!!! Even though I’m go to Sac City, it’s nice to that “Congratulations, you were admitted for Fall 2010” on the website…I was starting to worry a little though since SJSU didn’t accept me. Now I am waiting on UC Davis…can March 23 pleeeeassssseeee come?!

@hanucol I have 3.8 for business admin - accounting major. what major did u apply at sjsu?

graphic design…it’s supposedly super competitive over there…
