Who else didn't write the "Why Duke" Essay?

Yeah, I'm pretty much screwed come next Wednesday.:(

When did we have to write that?

I didn't either...:(

Will that count against us?

is it bad if I don't remember that essay?

I didn't do it...:( :( :(

From what i've gathered it won't hurt you if you don't do it, but if you did do it, it can only help you

Given that you've provided the "right" reasons, of course.

Rejections don't happen from not writing the essay.. rather, they happen when Duke chooses someone with similar stats but has demonstrated that extra interest in/knowledge about Duke over you.

Hey, you have a 1 in 5 chance. You might get lucky. :D (Personally, I would reject anyone who couldn't write a short paragraph on why they're applying there.)

I didn't write it.

I wasn't even aware of that option....I mean, I suppose you could a Why ____ school for all schools applied but I didn't see an option why, especially for the Trinity and not Engineering.

the essay was in the common app supplement and it said that it was completely optional and won't affect your decision if you don't write it. With that being said, it probably would have been better to write it since it can only help, but I doubt you'd not get in just b/c of that.

Don't you think if you're going to spend 4 years and $175000 somewhere you should at least be able to rattle off an essay why?

oh I remember it now..yeah, it's been like half a year since we applied.
Hey guys, why are you being jerks about it? If someone didn't do it, that's their perogative....

I wrote it :-)

I guess it was unfortunate I didn't notice it enough, if I had known I definitely would have BS-ed a paragraph ahaha (but I do really want to attend Duke after meeting a graduate). But then again, I don't know if I would have enough time since I had handwritten all my common apps only for my counselor to have lost my folder so I had to redo them in the last hours before going off for Christmas break.

::stops ranting::

Yeah they say it won't hurt you but, if it came down to you and someone with similar stats, and one of you wrote the paragraph, who do you think they would choose?

southern...
they would choose the one who wrote. it shows demonstrated interest.

i dont know why someone did not do that. did you think your stats were above the rest? its like applying for the job. if you really want the job youll write an extra paragraph about yourself if you want it. same with duke.

by the way during my interview i said yes i did the optional essay and the guy said yeah good cause its not really optional.
sorry you guys. dont want to sound harash but i think you should have written it.

Yes, but i'm certain they know more than speculative 16-18 year olds that inhabit this forum who act as if they have definitive answers.

(Not reffering to anyone specifically, just some of the mindsets here in general)

i did not say they are. but i would go with what the man told me...this is a crazy topic...i say it comes down to DEMONSTRATED INTEREST.
thats all.

do i think its wrong if they dont look fairly upon those who didint write it..yes.
