I feel like cap is a waste of my time. Especially considering I will be graduating with about 28 hours as it is.

UT ripped a lot of people off this year - as it sounds, at least.

your resume and hard work ethic speaks for itself. UT’s loss.
I cannot figure out what the criteria at UT is anymore…i know of many kids who deserved to get in way before kids i know who got in - if selection is based on academic performance. don’t give up! have you thought about appealing?? you need to WORK IT AND WORK HARD if you want to get in. go to austin and get some face time. You should be proud of your outstanding high school achievements…hang in there, don’t get down on yourself! be the first one in your family to graduate from college!! good luck.

@AKDM61 - Yeah, I’m appealing. Although on the UT website it says that to appeal you need to present new information, and I’m not really sure what kind of new information I could provide. I’ll try to visit (again), but this time speak to a chancellor or something. I have high hopes to have an accepted appeal, because if not, I don’t think the cap program would be too beneficial for me (mostly considering credits I already have and everything). Additionally, I was planning on CLEPing and taking courses over the summer, but if I CAP that would not be allowed, which I find pretty outrageous.

Several students from my son’s high school who are in the top 5-7% and have 5’s on AP’s, excellent SAT scores, did not get into UT engineering. A&M is getting several of them. I wonder who is getting in?

@Mlihp1 - Radio-Television-Film within the Communications School. To my knowledge, it’s a very competitive major. However, I actually have a good resume with film. So I can make sure to submit that along with my appeal since there was no room for it on the application during the first round through.

@Natalie9494 - I don’t know how it’s possible to say that. I would have been automatic after reranking, and I was only 2 people away during the actual app deadline. My friend was cap’d as 26th in our grade and a 34 on his ACT. Another friend got in with a 1750 and basically nothing else (he was top quartile, but that’s it). So, it’s difficult for me to understand what went on during admissions this year.

The problem is that valuable spots are wasted on some automatic admits that aren’t necessarily the best applicants. According to last year’s common data set 1 out of 9 enrolled freshmen scored less than 500 on the critical reading SAT. I wonder what percentage of those were automatic admits?

I was accepted OOS into Engineering with a low SAT (1710) and half-assed essay … I honestly don’t know how their holistic system works, I just think everything else stood out for me. I was seriously baffled, and personally, I thought there were more deserving applicants, but oh well. I declined the offer of admission this morning.

Imazingg, I had to decline because I already committed to another school (early decision, binding).

Gec414, I had quite a few extracurriculars and I had research experience over the summer in the engineering department at UCLA. I do have to say I was very fortunate to have been accepted, I absolutely loved the school when I visited. Had I not been accepted to where I’m studying next year, I would go to UT in a heartbeat.

How is everything below related to film, television or even communications?

RTF doesn’t care about your community service, jobs, Student council or soccer achievements. You had to put your film resume first. And for your essays you should have chosen topics related to media and film.

Due to socioeconomic and financial situation of applicants UT as a public university doesn’t have right to ask for video portfolio as all private competitive film schools do. So they weed applicants out looking at their resumes and essays instead of video materials.

Do you see the difference with “Won awards for soccer, art, and academics”?

You probably had a great chance with your film resume. Why did you not mail it to them? ApplyTexas had an option to mail additional resume and you could put in that envelope whatever you wanted including DVDs with your movies.

@Ya Ya - The information provided was just the information that I thought would make me eligible to get into UT as a whole. I didn’t go into details regarding what kind of volunteer/community service. By the time I submitted my resume they said that my materials had already been reviewed. For the record though, I did get into Dodge! And I couldn’t be happier! But Chapman is so expensive, and I plan on attending grad there. So I’d like to do my undergrad at UT.

Also, all of my essay topics were related to film.

I really really really didn’t understand. But oh well, nothing I can do about it now. CAP doesn’t sound too bad though… cheaper, smaller classes, and I can knock out some basic courses before I transfer.
