Who else is going to a college with little prestige?

Is anyone else going/applying to a less prestigious university? I'm most likely going to be attending the University of Alabama at Huntsville due to its close proximity to many places I'd love to work (NASA, Boeing, Red Stone Arsenal, and...), the research they do there is epic (nuclear and plasma propulsion! :D), and the merit aid I'm guaranteed (So far full tuition + $2,500 at minimum... if I can get a 34 It'll be a complete full ride) ((I also love the campus atmosphere, and the feeling I got there when I visited)).

So, who else is not attending an ivy or top 40 school for whatever reason? I feel like I'm the only one here haha

I’m in the class of 2014, so I don’t know where I’m going. But I’ll probably end up at a school ranked 50-100 or so because my parents and their finances are screwed up and inconsistent. I need money.
Right now I want to go to Case Western because I’d get to stay in Cleveland (you’ll never hear anyone else say that again in your life) and possibly wouldn’t have to pay for housing. But I might not get in, and they might not give me enough money.
(I want to go to grad school, so hopefully the location doesn’t matter too much, because I don’t want to stay in Cleveland for the rest of my life.)

Geez, even Lebron didn’t want to stay in Cleveland and he grew up there! More seriously, same with my parents. My dad is somewhat unpredictable in income and what he does with it so I understand that; I don’t want to risk having to take out a bunch of loans or risk having to work 2 or 3 jobs either. (I’m class of 2014 too)

I’m in the Class of 2014. I’m probably going to Bucknell. Is Bucknell considered not prestigious?

^I’ve heard of Bucknell. Good school, but not really considered ‘prestigious’.

I’m also going to a no-name school. Shrugs Most people do. As long as the education and experience are good, everything should be fine.

Does Harvard count?

^ eye roll

I think I’ll end up at Howard U, but I’m just a sophmore.

75% sure I will go to The University of Miami. It’s somewhat prestigious nationally, but within the state of Florida, it’s very prestigious.

Could go to Georgetown if my hook holds up and it’s very prestigious nationally. But I’d rather not go to a school where I’m in the bottom half.

I’ll be going to a college with some prestige since I prefer Unis over LACs.

I’ll probably end up in a little prestige school. I m only a sophomore so I don’t know where, but I’d like to come out of UG with a little debt as possible because I’m sure ill end up in grad or med school and is prefer not to go in already buried in loans.

It all depends where I got the most financial aid. The debt I’ll have on my plate after completing my undergrad means significantly more to me than prestige.

A lot of Ph.D. programs are fully funded.

^ But not most law, business, and med schools.

I’ll probably end up somewhere with prestige because my safety is UT Austin and I’m not interested in LACs.

UAH is a great school. It has an excellent engineering/business program. Most of the graduates land jobs very quickly. The area also has internships for these majors.

I’m starting senior year and everyone is pushing the prestigious (and too close to home) University of Michigan, but I believe I want a less prestigious private school… I prefer the friendlier student body, more personal academics and I just don’t want to stay close to home! Literally everyone I know says I’m crazy if I don’t end up at Mich but they don’t listen when I say name doesn’t matter… Am I silly for following my heart?

Not really silly, but passing up Michigan means you lose out on a great opportunity and value if in state.

Fifthinstructor I know UAH is a great school; its actually my favorite college I’ve visited so far. I was just stating that its not world renown or looked at as one of “those” colleges if you know what I mean by “those”.

I’m definitely not dissing UAH (its about a perfect fit for me; I’m going to major in aerospace engineering) but, its not an ivy or extremely prestigious like many of the colleges every at cc appear to be obsessed with. I was just wondering who else (besides me) isn’t really worrying about prestige/rank of a college and more worried with the fit/practicability.

I stopped caring about “fit” a long time ago…I’d prefer to go to an LAC but I don’t like that there aren’t as many course options. And. after reading through a few catalogs and seeing a few campuses, all colleges seem the same to me.
But I care about finances, and I don’t really like the idea of a reach school because I don’t like writing essays or filling out forms for colleges I probably won’t get into.

I went to a “prestigious” (at least by CC terms) school and transferred to a much less respected one. Tbh, I’m far happier here than I ever was at my past institution. Go to a school that fits you academically, socially, and financially. Sometimes that’s Harvard, sometimes that’s the University of Oklahoma. Btw, most LACs are not well know at all.

Also, a few essays aren’t a big deal when the reward is potentially so great.

I’ve also gotten really used to the way it is at my underachieving high school and I don’t even know what it would be like to be a below-average student somewhere (which is what I’d probably be at a lot of prestigious schools). So I’m apprehensive about that.
