who else is upset at being admitted for spring?

wth? you got in, there are a bunch of rejectees (me included) that would want to be in ur spot. don't go to ucb so i can appeal and get in. haha jp

because i sure as hell am. i'm not excited to spend more money, not be guaranteed my housing choice, and generally be given the consolation prize of "spring 2006." also, i fulfilled the reading/comp and quantitative requirements by testing, so i only have EIGHTEEN classes to choose from, seventeen if you ignore the elective.

THANKS SO MUCH BERKELEY. <3

i know it's already a good thing that i got in, but somehow i'm not too pleased. who's with me? :)

I feel the exact same way! Everyone keeps telling me that it's not bad, it's the same as regular admissions except for the timing, blah blah blah... even though Cal was my top choice, I still just feel bad. I almost would rather have been rejected instead of put in the pool of second-class losers.

No offense to the two above me, of course :)

At the end, YOU will have to make the decision. We are saying it's a great program not to try to trap you into some crappy program- why should we? We are simply eagered to share our experience to those who have to make the same decision we did last year. If you take spring admits are "second-class losers," so be it and I wish you luck at another university.

I understand that the program is still really good, and I'm probably going to end up doing it. But my initial feeling was extremely negative, and I still feel like I was rejected from "actually" going to Berkeley. I don't actually think that the program consists of "second-class losers", but I can't shake off the feeling that "I wasn't good enough."

exactly

like i want to know, if FPF is so similar to Cal, then why do they have it in the first place? why not just accept us all into Cal? is there somehow more space second semester than first semester?

I was kinda upset at being admitted for the spring semester...for like a second. It's not so bad being second class.

How do you know if you've been admitted into fall or spring? o_O

Well, obviously being a spring admit not as good as simply being admitted as a fall admit. I think all the spring admits would prefer to be fall admits.

That said, being a spring admit is still better than being rejected completely. Keep in mind that over 75% of all applicants to Berkeley get rejected completely. I'm quite certain that those rejectees would prefer to be spring admits.

If you're accepted for Spring, it says so. If you're regular fall, it's just a regular admissions letter.

i am kind of disappointed...
i mean i'm glad i got in but like.. what?
i applied for fall.. not spring.. and the not having enough room thing doesn't really make sense to me.. i mean it's not like everyone who got admitted is going to go anyways o_O

Umm, it's practically the same. I'm so thankful that I've been given this chance instead of being rejected. I'm definitely taking it. I love Berkeley for having this program instead of just rejecting people.

Actually...yes. People drop out and stuff.

I am somewhat upset, but I think I am more confused than anything.

Also, I asked this in another thread, but can you appeal to be accepted for fall? I had a lowish GPA (3.74uw, 4.26w) but a high SAT (2250). So I was prob. given spring b/c of grades. Anyway, sr yr I got A's in 5 APs + a college class so my GPA went up to 3.80uw, 4.43w. I also scored 80 points higher on math in another sitting, so my composite is really 2330.

Is there anything I can do to appeal for fall?

I strongly suspect that there are also financial considerations at hand. Keep in mind that students are not truly paying their own way at Berkeley. Your tuition does not really cover what it truly costs Berkeley (or any other major school) to educate you. The truth is, every student at Berkeley or any other major school is basically a net financial "loss", to be covered by state subsidies or research grants, or endowment interest, or so forth. Hence, the fewer semesters you are at Berkeley, the less they 'lose' on you.

"but I can't shake off the feeling that "I wasn't good enough."
Sakky is correct. That's something you have to settle with. If you are not able to accept this feeling, then maybe it's your mind saying you would rather attend another university.

"i mean it's not like everyone who got admitted is going to go anyways o_O"

They already have a prediction on the number of students that will accept the offer for fall. Some students are admitted in spring to fill in the spaces freed by those who graduate in the fall.

well is there really a day to day difference? can people tell you're a spring admit if you don't tell them?

this spring admit makes me mad. I'd actually consider Cal if they didn't do this to me... now, i'll probably end up at UCLA or Northwestern.

A little disappointing. It's like some middle ground UCB conspiracy.

"well is there really a day to day difference? can people tell you're a spring admit if you don't tell them?"

I'd like to hear more about this too. It really does feel like I'm a second-class Berkeley admit. I'm not saying I'm ungrateful, but I think maybe I'd rather be a regular kid at UCLA than have the feeling that I'm "the worst" at Berkeley - and further be treated as such.

im so confused about this thing........anybody decided if ur gonna accept or not????
