Wow, I know how you feel XD.
I got in and my unweighted GPA from freshman to junior year is a 3.55. If that isn’t a bad unweighted GPA, then I don’t know what is (not intended to be offensive). But I thought people who get accepted into ucsd gets like at least 3.8 unweighted GPA’s. I am still shocked that I got in. But I guess I can find some reasons why I got admitted despite my extremely low GPA:

an ok sat score: 2020
pretty good/average sat II scores: 700 in Bio M and 780 in Math IIC
championship at robotics competition (I was president of that club)
VP and MVP of my science olympiad team
pretty good (in my opinion) essays
the courses I took are as rigorous as it can get (12 AP’s by the time I graduate HS)

…But yea, you get that point. I know those attributes are nowhere near amazing, but I guess they are good enough to cover up my bad GPA ><…

Low SAT score for me - like 1440 and low ACT score of 23. I got in and on the first wave too and to the major and college of my choice.

But then again, I am in a special case because I attended a high school that has an early college program where I could take college classes at a local community college in addition to my high school classes.

So by the end of this semester, I would have my high school diploma, plus two Associate’s Degree - one in Math and Science, and one as IGETC Certified. And I have almost 50 transferable units so I would be in at least with Sophomore standing. If it helps, I am also ELC, among the only three seniors in our school who got it (our senior class size is like 64).

Also, with all the classes I took - my GPA is 4.6, and weighted I think is 3.9.

Ahaha, I definitely know how you feel. My SAT/SAT II scores are definitely not that great… I wasn’t expecting to get accepted to UCSD with my scores! My grades are alright, I guess. I think what pushed me over to the acceptance pile would be my extra curriculars and my personal statements…but then again, I’m not sure. ahah because doesn’t SD go by some sort of point system?

The quality of your high school is extremely important. Here is a list of major feeder high schools to UCSD. The fact that you may not be in the top 10% of your high school is nothing spectacular. Also many high schools don’t rank students and therefore are not accounted for in the whole 10% thing. I will admit that I came from one of these major feeder high schools and I’m lucky if I graduated in the top 50% of my high school class. http://studentresearch.ucsd.edu/sriweb/enroll/ffhs.pdf

Thanks for the link, richzz89. I knew my HS was very challenging, but didn’t realize it was way up there!! I’m sure that’s what gave me the extra points to push me over the edge, and it explains why just about everyone from my HS that applied got in (although most of us are nerds).

Interesting link richzz89. I’m not surprised by the schools listed in my city/county. I’m from a private school, and I believe I’m the only one who has been accepted from my class.

I have ELC and a weighted GPA of 4.5, unweighted 4.0 (never received less than an “A” my entire school career), but my EC and test scores were a bit weak. ACT was 30 and SAT IIs were 650 each.

In the UCSD Comprehensive Review, ELC is only worth 300 points. Our school has only 5 AP courses, and I have taken/are taking them all. My parents both have college degrees and I’m not low income. So, no points there.

Even with the ELC, admission isn’t guaranteed, especially at UCBerkely, UCLA, and UCSD. I didn’t get my major (wanted bioengineering, but am undeclared), but at least I am admitted!

i did! and im going through odds to go -_-
3.7 UC GPA, 27 ACT, 740 Math IIC, 710 Molecular Bio. very light senior course load to be honest [1 AP class].
i really want to go but my moms trying to keep me here and get me to send my SIR to UCI to avoid an extra 14k in living expenses over the next 4 years.

@ iownchopsticks - My mom was the same too. I got into UCR and she wanted me to go there to avoid the living costs, but I told her it’s the better school for my major and I told her that she could pay the same tuition and books cost she was going to pay at UCR (should be about the same at SD), and I take care of the living costs, which I shall manage through work-study and student loans.

1880 SAT score (took 3 times, one time it decreased…)
26 ACT
3.42 UW GPA
500’s on 3 SAT IIs.
plus i’m asian.
only a little bit of com service
no sports
only ec’s: a few clubs
no ELC

the catch? i’m taking 5 AP classes my senior year (plus piano advance) and we’re dirt poor. plus a few other private matters.

3.5 uw gpa, 3.8 w
1870 SAT awful SAT II’s
no ecs
some community service.
couple of jobs.
top 25%?
I was surprised lol. but I’m a minority, broke, and was told by an admissions person at UCLA that I had an awesome essay sooo who knows?

I got a 4.02 wieghted (3.8 unweighted) after taking only 2 AP classes (and failing one of the tests). And so far, I have gotten into the UCSD and UCD engineering school, UCI, UCSB, and the Purdue Engineering School.
I got a 1750 on the SAT
480 on Physcis
580 in Math II
650 in US History

plus only a 27 on the ACT (25 on the first sitting)!
But I had a LOAD of extracurricular activities and work experience (it isn’t all about the test scores).
