...And who is considering attending Irvine, given that they got this invitation? I know I'm giving more thought to Irvine now. Anyone else in the same boat?

yeah, same here, and with a regents, i think ill go with uci even if i get accepted to ucla or berkeley

I am a current CHP student here at UCI..btw I turned down Berkeley and have never looked back :) I will try to answer questions if you have them. Also, Alicantekid..somewhere around these boards..is a CHP alum.

I will also be helping out at honors experience day on March 11 so you might see me around, especially if you're going into the social sciences. Congrats!

How is the CHP scene? Sounds like it would be pretty convenient.

There is the academic part and basically the social part. The CHP does a lot of social events (Angels game, semi-formal, halloween party, study breaks, retreat, coffee/donut hour every friday, etc.) Some of the people are pretty nerdy of course and some are pretty not nerdy. That's how it is socially, but you probably wouldn't want to just limit yourself to CHP, (although it does provide a nice community within the university) cause you have the rest of UCI to social network too.

Academically..yeah I think it's convenient. Especially living in the honors dorm my freshmen year. Usually there were a few people in it that had the same class as me so group studying was easy. And through the CHP you take honors classes of course so you will see a lot of the same people throughout the years in a smaller setting (like in discussion). So that's nice cause they aren't just random people that you meet in class as much.

hmm... any good looking girls in chp? 8D

Ok, to be honest there are definitely some pretty good looking girls in the CHP, but overall, it does not have the highest concentration of hot chicks. But I can still think of a bunch. That's my honest opinion.

yackityack -

during honors experience day, do you get the opportunity to meet professors one-on-one in the schools or are there too many people?

I have actually never been to it, but from what I understand there is a lunch with current students and professors in your school. I imagine that you'll get to talk to some at lunch but I don't think there is specific one-on-one type stuff.

yackityack-

How tough are the academics? Is it difficult, for example, to maintain a 3.0?

What's your major?

You will be challenged academically. I don't believe it will be a walk in the park for you. But at the same time, keep in mind that the average CHP student graduates with a 3.72 gpa from UCI, compared with somewhere around 3.0 for the school as a whole. That is really high.

My major is social science. I think I read somewhere on another thread that you're a social science major, as well. If so, how do you like your major? And, if not, well...feel free to tell me about your major anyway :D.

I'm in the school of social sciences but I'm polisci..and I like it so far..although some of the intro classes are dry. The class I'm taking right now, my first upper-div class, is really good.

How would you describe the students in the CHP (personality-wise)? Is everyone friendly, overall?

Another question, whats the parking situation like for kids in the honors housing?

who qualifies/receives invitations for CHP?

Ok to answer some of your questions. Honors housing is next to regular housing..so the parking situation is the same whichever freshmen dorm you live in. Parking is expensive and sometimes hard to find although they just opened a new parking structure near middle earth so it's not as bad as it once was. Actually the honors house in mesa court, Loma, is pretty close to a parking lot so I would have to give the parking edge to Loma.

CHP students personality-wise---There are a lot of different types. There are the introverted nerdy types but also the loud outgoing types. It really depends on the person. Come to honors experience day and see what the people are like.

Who qualifies? I'm not sure of the exact numbers..but it's basically the top applicants to UCI. Although a lot more are admitted, the freshmen class is about 160..which is about 3 percent of the incoming freshmen class.

Can freshman ever get parking?

Yes, freshmen can get parking.

Does everyone in CHP on scholarship, Regents etc.?
