Who else takes latin?

^I’m self-studying Latin and I have to say, it’s a lot more efficient than taking Latin at school. Was it hard to jump from Latin I to Latin AP? Or did you just do a lot of self-studying over the summer?
And oooooohhhhh, I totally want to learn Greek too. I was flipping through this Learn Greek book at the store the other day for an hour. It looked super fascinating, but unfortunately, I just don’t have the time. :frowning: It’s all consumed by Latin currently.

^I did no self-studying at all, and I got the highest grade in the AP class. I am just brilliant I guess.

If you (like the vast, vast majority of students) enter my school in 7th or 8th grade, you must take 3 years of Latin. So I took 3 years of Latin. I loved it. And then, because I had heard the AP teachers sucked and at my sister’s advice, I started French in 10th grade. French class makes me want to die and I desperately wish I could go back in time and stick with Latin. Latin is awesome. It’s not very helpful on the SAT though. The only time I an remember Latin helping me with English vocab is when I was 12, had learned “paucus -a -um” a few days ago and saw “paucity” in a book I was re-re-re-reading. With stupid words like “internecine,” Latin would just mislead you.

I still mess around with translation some times. I got a book of Catullus for my birthday a few days ago. I can still translate the stuff I always knew like Passer Mortuus Est, that one Vivamus mea Lesbia, and Lugete Veneres Cupidinesque, but besides that, with real Latin stuff, not Latin I and II, it’s difficult. Especially because, even though I was a really great Latin student, I never really bothered to learn all the forms of important verbs like volo and nolo.

im in my 4th year (taking final today), and it’s my last. i can really tell you i havent really learned ANYTHING about latin. the day it’s over, the declension are all going to go out my mind and it’ll be like i never learned it

shouldve taken a more concrete language that would’ve been more useful like spanish, french, german, or something

Finishing up my 5th year of Latin (as a junior). Love it. Always have, always will. Considering being a classics major in college.

But I take spanish also, so maybe that’s why I didn’t get burnt out with Latin.

This is my 5th year of latin and I’m a sophomore.
