Who else thinks this is really weird?

Firstly, I really really don't mean to be arrogant at all.
I got into UChicago, NYU, Business Honors, Plan II....and got rejected from Liberal Arts Honors - arguably the easiest of all 5 to get into.

What did I do wrong here? I'm not posting stats, but they aren't bad at all. I actually was thinking about LAH. Is there anything I can do?

hmmm, ive never seen anyone use the word “unarguably”, which I guess is kinda weird

Okay, I’m sorry. It has been changed. I guess I have no right to judge, but still, is there anything I can do now? I know that admissions decisions are final, but…

sorry for being a dik, I honestly don’t know what you can do.

You might be able to apply next year? I’m sure one of the next few posters will answer that question.

I think they rejected you because Plan II took you and you can’t do both.

No one in their right mind would pick LAH over Plan II, so I think they said no because of that.

I actually called to withdraw my application to make sure I didn’t get rejected.

this raises the question of why in the world would you want LAH over any of those other options? why would you even want plan 2 over the other options? (unless you are double majoring)

Well oddly enough, despite withdrawing my application, I DID get in to LAH.

Yes, weird indeed…

Just curious, why would you withdraw you application to LAH? Just to save them some trouble or for some other reason?

To save them the trouble…I got in to Plan II EA, and knew there was no way that I would choose LAH over Plan II. So I wanted to save them the trouble of having to look at my application. I also didn’t want to take away a place from a student who would actually enter the program.

However, despite my best efforts (calling and speaking with Dr. Carver), I have failed as I was still admitted.

Maybe they’re trying to lure me away…

The same thing happened to me. I was accepted to U Chicago and Plan II EA and I just got a letter from LAH that said I was rejected. I just laughed because I could care less. I’m going to Plan II which is about a thousand times better.

I think LAH is mostly based on grades and scores, whereas those are only 20% at Plan II.

Plan II cares much more about the essays.

I applied to Business Honors and LAH (I dont even know why). Accepted to BHP and rejected from LAH today. Haha. Similar situation with you.

Haha wow, I thought I was the only one who was very strangely admitted to Plan II but rejected to LAH. Phew, so this didn’t just happen to me then too.

TO ALL THOSE REJECTED BY LAH that applied to PLAN II OR BHP -

It’s NOT your fault. More than anything, my ego was hurt because I didn’t want to go to LAH even if accepted. I called and left a message for Mr. Paul Sullivan, and got a call back yesterday. He very gingerly and with extremely careful words that the “only part of [my] application that suggested * was a bad choice for Plan I is that [I didn’t] have a clear choice of concentration and that * seem[ed] interested in Business Honors” which I was accepted into along with Plan II.

My theory: Matriculation rates. Programs like LAH which admit about 250 out of 1000 applicants and expect a class size of 150 want to make sure that 60% of their admitted cnadidates come to actually join LAH. That many of us are overqualified suggests that they think we won’t come to the school. Thus, they reject us. I can’t explain loneranger getting in as he withdrew his application and even was accepted to Plan II, and is one of the smartest kds I’ve seen on CC. But, it is true that we didn’t get rejected on our merits.

Sullivan even said that by any means, there were many less qualified applicants who were admitted, and this is because he thought that their top choice was LAH. PS: This is also why UT asks where else we are applying (what other universities).

That said, LAH is a great 2 year program, and I am MORE than glad for those who got in.

What does LAH require you to do? Do you have to take an honors class every semester?

You take an hour seminar, and have the option to take honors sections of required freshman courses.

You don’t have to take up that option. So you could be in LAH and take just the one hour seminar.

theloneranger, you never cease to amaze me with your knowledge of UT.
You could work in the UT admissions office or giving tours of campus even now as a HS student.
