@JustEthan - I really have no idea but it‘s certainly possible. I assume they are all important to give the admissions committee a sense of the applicant beyond the stats and ECs. If just one of the essays really strikes a chord with the admissions committee, then that may be enough.
I shared my child‘s story simply because of the three essays she wrote for UChicago, the uncommon essay was by far the most unique and clever, and I could see someone reading it and say, „Wow! We want this kid!“ Not sure this is what happened, and of course it was probably a multitude of things under the holistic review rubric, but knowing how competitive the applicants are and how even highly qualified kids who may have been accepted at other HYPSM schools get rejected or deferred from UChicago, I wouldn‘t be surprised if her uncommon essay was the icing on the cake, especially since she did not apply ED and did not take the usual steps of showing demonstrated interest (although she is clearly interested).
