Who gets admitted?

Here's one currently ongoing at friend's son's HS--admit one, deny one, admit both, deny both. Your guess is as good as mine.

Candidate one: 3 sport big time HS athlete, not "A" track but one, possibly two AP courses junior year, 3.5 average unweighted, SATs breathing on 1500

Candidate two: Varsity athlete but not big time, "A" track with hardest courses throughout HS, 3.6 unweighted, SATs not so good for this crowd--1350, legacy.

Feeder school

Depending on essays and recs, I'd say admit on both

Maybe for one. No way for two.

No way for two?? That sounds like me.. and I got a likely letter.. and I don't really come from a feeder school, though I am instate and I don't play sports nor do I have a legacy. His GPA is low, but I don't see why he wouldn't have a fair shot getting in. UVA is big on courseload, dunno about one, sat's are great though

^^^This is Vandy, not UVA. I'm pretty sure that Vanderbilt does not send out likely letters.

Anyways, I think that both are borderline candidates, but I would agree with VUAlum that #1 has the edge.

hah OMG I definitely thought I was posting in the UVA Section.. they are right next to each other on the "Top Universities" page. My apologies, and geeze, how embarassing

2 isn't too bad. I think both have a chance.

all of you guys that think 1 and/or 2 don't have a chance have not looked at the thread for who got accepted. there are some pretty low GPA applicants that have already gotten the acceptance. And for that matter, so low test scores.

I truely hope that Vandie takes kids with more than just high GPAs and SAT scores. Would be a pretty dull school if everyone was the same!

That's one thing I've noticed about vanderbilt students actually. Our SAT and GPA scores are not up to standards as some of the same caliber schools around the country (what, 1270-1440 middle 50%? and 77% in top 10% of graduating class; 96% in top quarter?). Why is this? However, the extracurricular and talent that each student brings more than makes up for that lack.

There's a lot more to you than your GPA and SAT.
It makes a better, more well-rounded school that sees that. Does anyone really want to spend 4 or more years with the guy on Blue's Clues?

She got her acceptance around the 20th. ED2

She is Asian, very, very smart, and Vandie was her first choice, obviously.

I don't know her scores but having know her for years, she excelled at everything...except sports. If she is an indication of who gets in from my school, I don't have a chance!

i got rejected..but a friend of mine got in with a 1360/ two extra currics/ and a 3.5 unweighted gpa with a few ap classes
