How does Columbia select whom to interview out of many applicants?

I understand that there are many interviewers in my state and area, but only limited amount of people get interviewed.. I haven't been contacted for an interviewed even though I applied ED. Some of my friends who applied RD already had interviews... i"m just very curious about the selection process.

i applied rd and got my interview over a month ago--only about 2 weeks after submitting my part I... i am a legacy, so that probably is a factor.

I submitted all of my app on the 31st of December. I had my interview on Thursday. The guy showed me the sheet with all the info he had on me, which was basicly my name, gender, activities, and possible majors. There was nothing about my SAT or GPA on the sheet, but I was under the impression he knew/assumed that my scores/GPA were at least decent if not amazing.

I don't believe you get an interview just because you are a legacy or have great scores.

I applied ED and my interviewer only knew my name, major, and TEL # (He showed me on his e-mail). The university does not coordinate the interviews, they send the names to the Alumni committee, and the committee decides (randomly? based on schedule?) who gets an interview.

Besides, You might want drive 30 minutes to your next door town/city just for a CU interview, but the committee decides whether it is convenient or not.

But then again, no one is THAT sure about the process because you never know if the university just decides that not to send in a person's name to the almuni committee.

I think the interviews are based on how early you submitted your apps. I submitted mine sometime around the end of december, too, so I don't think I'm going to get one, especially since another guy from my school got his like 2 weeks ago.

To the original: If you applied ED and got accepted, you won't get an interview now. If you got deferred it is possible, I guess, but I think they would have done it earlier because now they have to deal with all the RD peoplee. If you live in an interviewer, I think it is kind of luck of the draw. For me there were none anywhere close so I never got one. The interview is not very important at all though.

Yea, I submitted at the end of december and didn't receive an interview yet.... does anybody know what kind of percentage of applicants get one? and can I ask for one too?

Many people got their interview scheduled a few days after they submitted part one. I submitted mine late October, and I still haven't gotten anything yet. And I live 25 minutes drive from Columbia.

it wasnt bad at all. twas rather informal though i dressed up. seemed more like the guy was trying to sell me on columbia than the other way around....
